Rice University Class of 2023 RD Thread

Right, that makes sense. I should have been more clear with my intent: visiting and tours. I kinda forgot that there are other ways to describe “demonstrated interest.” Thanks @Meadow530

@snowy2010 Our daughter had hers waived last year and got in ED.

I’m a very sleepy international who won’t check her results until hours later (cause it’s late at night at my place) but I really hope the results turn out fruitful for you guys and if they don’t I hope you find some other wonderful place for yourselves. Good Luck!

I visited and did an interview and I think the demonstrated interest does carry a lot of weight for Rice. However, in state for Texas, most people (everyone I know who applied Rice) visit or do an interview, so it doesn’t really give an advantage. Maybe for out of state it does.

Less than an hour!

@yaleivyleague According to the latest common data set, Rice counts demonstrated interest in the third level category of importance along with things like state of residence and legacy status. In the very important category are all the academic measures, ECs, talent and character/personal qualities.

a quick google search tells me that Rice does value demonstrated interest, as many colleges of that caliber do, but in addition to asking questions, visiting, and reaching out to the schools, the “Why Rice?” essay also is used as a gauge of interest. For a couple of high caliber schools that I was admitted to, I made no visits and didn’t really email or ask questions either, but every single one of them had a “Why school name” essay that I feel I wrote very well. If you wrote a stellar essay in this portion, then you might be good, even without a visit.

We live near San Diego, CA and attended a visiting presentation and went to Rice for 4 days in September. There she stayed overnight, ate in the dining room , interviewed, and attended student led panels during their annual “Open House” event. I am confident this helped her write more Rice specific essays to aid her application process. This demonstrated interest for out of state along with her credentials has me very optimistic and excited. I am a RN in the hospital and right now I wouldn’t want to be hooked up to a heart monitor!

30 minutes to go!!

I’m an in-state student and received a lot of emails from Rice over the past couple of years from sending several ACT scores to them (below-average) but maybe that will say something to them that I have been interested in a couple of years. I did not get an interview and did not get to visit Rice since I do not go/ have the time to go to Houston a lot. Best of luck to everyone who applied and no matter what happens, everything happens for a reason!

12 MINUTES AHH

it’s possible it could come out later since the e-mail said “after 5pm CT” but here’s to hoping they were just covering their bases…

Just a quick question before it comes out… What are Owl Days? Is it different from O-week (Orientation week)?

Just a heads up RE Facebook: The group Rice University Class of 2023 that’s run by Dani Knobloch and Andrea Lara Lin is the one to join. The other one is run by a Russian bot or something ?
Also, please keep in mind that it is for COMMITTED students and join requests from parents will not be accepted. Also, if you don’t answer the questions, your request won’t be approved.
Thank you, and good luck!

Nervous as heck! Accepted to the UC publics but not a single private one. Frustrating to know that as each one goes by without an acceptance, the next one will be even harder to get into…ack!!!

Owl Days is for admitted students and O-Week is orientation in August.

theyre out

They’re out!
