Rice University Class of 2023 RD Thread

I heard that Houston has a lot of mosquitos. Does this apply to Rice as well?

Houston has a lot of mosquitos in the warmer months, especially after large rain events. The city regularly sprays for mosquitos, I’m sure Rice sprays all around campus too. My daughter keeps a can of OFF handy when she is going to walk outside after a large rain. The mosquitos tend to be the worst in places that have standing water.

Two days ago I received an invitation for Vision program. Do you know waht does mean?

@joaco59 See this link (and specifically post #22): http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/rice-university/2120175-rice-vision-2023.html#latest

I requested an interview but was unable to get one since too many people applied; will that significantly hurt my chances?

Looks like March 22nd will be the date.

Thank you!! I just realized I skipped over the post that Houston1021 posted about past release dates, oops.

@califlower A good interview is always a positive for your application but not among the most important factors Admissions considers. If none is available to you directly, either through a personal appointment, an Admissions rep at your HS or a regional conference, then call the Admissions office and see how they suggest you can document your expression of interest so it is preserved for later review.

Hey Rice people! Hey @awesomepolyglot !

Does Rice inform about any scholarships at the same time as admission?

Yes. If you are awarded a merit scholarship there is a link to the scholarship in your online admission letter and information in the mailed admission packet.

If I never requested for an interview, will I not receive one?
Also does not requesting an interview impact my application?

You have to request an interview. The deadlines for doing so have passed. Requesting an interview is one of the ways to show interest in Rice, but it is not the only way. https://admission.rice.edu/apply/freshman/interviews

I’m curious…for those of you who had a campus interview at some point, does it show up in your portal? There are checklists for everything including requesting an interview. My daughter interviewed last summer on campus but I don’t see any “evidence” of that interview in her portal.

@TXRunningMom Me too! I interviewed off-campus in December but my portal never changed to reflect that

@firefox226 , had you already applied by the time you had your interview? Your report makes me feel a little better. Since my daughter interviewed in the summer before the application opened, I was wondering if her “file” was ever linked up with her application.

Also does anyone happen to know the decision date? I tried looking all over the website but I couldn’t find anything solid haha, thank you!

Oh I did interview after submitting my application so I’m not sure if that’s a factor

@TXRunningMom

@firefox226 , based on last year’s thread, I marked Friday, March 22 on my calendar for a release date. I think they technically say April 1 though.
