Brown is a wonderful college, known for its fun traditions and tight knit community. Within a few hours of moving in, each and every student is convinced that their college is the best college - such is the nature of the residential college system and the spirit of the friendly rivalry between and among the colleges.
Last year I was able to connect with fellow parents of students who had been assigned to my daughter’s college on the Rice parent Facebook page. It was wonderful meeting them in person on move in day!
I heard the residential college assignments just came out. Every student believes that his/her residential college is the best. All are fantastic places with lots of spirit. My daughter truly believes that Martel is the best college ever. Some of the residential colleges have older facilities than others. Brown is part of the north college group closer to the Hermann Park side of campus near the main administration building.
One other thing to know - the architectural and room set up is very different from college to college. Your student will receive a welcome packet from the college which should answer specific questions about what to bring, what furniture your student’s room will contain, what the laundry set up is. One example, some of the laundry machines in some of the colleges won’t work with Tide pods. Brown has floor bathrooms, but some of the other colleges have bathrooms within the suite. So make sure to read the info that comes from the college very carefully.
Brown is nice. It’s in a log-jam for second with Baker, Weiss, Hanszen, Will Rice, Martel, Jones, Duncan and McMurtry. Sid is bringing up the rear in third.
Is Lovett the one that kind of looks like a prison on the outside? I think that’s the one D19 wanted since she stayed there during the visit. Said it was cool inside.
You can join it now. Go to the Rice Parent to Parent Network page and request to join. You will be asked to enter the name of your student. The Page just opened up to incoming parents a few days ago. Rice waits until the enrollment is completely finalized before giving new parents access to the official parent FB page.
@CriedEmerson I know this thread is super old but I’m applying to transfer for the fall 2020 semester and my ACT stats are similar. I was wondering if you had any tips or if there’s another way I could contact you perhaps? My biggest difference would have to be the college GPA, coming in at a 3.3 from the University of Toronto, notorious for deflating grades but I do have a lot of ECS, high highschool GPA, etc.
