Hello all–

Everyone who applies by December 15 is eligible for consideration for the program. Last year that was about 3500 students (going from memory so this is a ball park number). About 700-800 semi-finalists were invited to submit additional information to move on in the competition and about 100 were chosen as finalists. They are invited to campus at our expense for interviews and are notified in late March about the awards. We aim to enroll 50 Richmond Scholars each year.

As for stats, most of the those who are selected for this award have superior records in every way–the most rigorous courses available to them, very stron grades, test scores that are generally 700’s and better on each sub-score. In addition, they’ve done something beyond being an awesome student in terms of numbers. They give us evidence in their applications of the presence of the other factors the committee is looking for (you can read the list of “scholar qualities” at [University of Richmond: Merit-Based Scholarships](http://www.richmond.edu/RichmondScholars)).

I hope this helps you get a better idea of the process and the criteria.

Good luck!
