I’m a huge Phelps fan. I appreciate what he overcame to get back to this point- and the longevity of his focus.
I think that he’s an interesting guy. I admire that he’s pushed back through his struggles. I hope that continues when he no longer swims competitively.
Watching women’s springboard diving right now and I can’t believe they still haven’t gotten the pool chemicals right. It looks like a swamp. What an embarrassment for Brazil! They can’t even use the underwater cameras because there’s no visibility.
Supposedly they will be closing the pool tonight, draining it and refilling in an attempt to get things balanced. Reports say it smells in addition to the color. :-&
Scary–hope no one gets an infection from the murky water–yuck!
On a positive note, I’ve read that some of the divers report that the color can actually be helpful. It helps them differentiate between the blue of the sky and the typically blue, now green water during a dive.
Yellow and blue make green, right? They always say don’t eat yellow snow. I am not swimming in that pool.
Congrats to the US women’s fencing team getting the bronze in team sabre.
Just watched that match too, @saillakeerie . Fencing is one of those sports I only watch every four years, like archery, shooting, equestrian, curling at the Winter Olympics, and I get sucked in every time.
Kerber loses first match (for her in the Olympics) in gold metal match. And now she has left the court with lower back problems.
I suspect that’s going to land him in the “full pay” pile at UT.

i bet that at least his tuition is taken care of if he is on an athletic scholarship.
Another gold for U.S. women’s 8 in rowing. US is so dominant in that event.
My book club read Boys in the Boat about the rowing in the 1936 Olympics. It really made me appreciate how difficult it is to row. One of our members rows and several others tried but only lasted a few weeks. Besides strength and endurance, you have to be perfectly synchronized.
How can you win a 10K after falling? Wow!
Almost as exciting as the Kentucky Derby!
Wow! What a run he had.
That ability to kick it into another gear - warp speed - near the end always impresses me!
Did anyone see the men’s single race? First and second place finished with the same time and they went to a photo finish to determine the winner - this is the margin of victory: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CpwuMy2WgAIskb7.jpg.
Am I the only one bawling after swimming?
