Wow. That exchange was something. Thanks for the link, patsmom. I don’t like what’s continuing to happen with morning news on NBC and ABC. That’s why I watch CBS.
“Don’t lie to your mother”. AMEN.

The sad part is that there were apparently a few real incidents that have not gotten attention due to this bogus one. And Ryan is one who does not seem intellectually prepared, shall we say, to handle an unscripted interview. Hope they keep him away from microphones.
I’m really sick of seeing Lochte’s face. I want to know what else is going on in the Olympic world.
Yes, I could look it up online but sometimes I just want a quick recap from the tv news.
Then, sadly there were the sexual assault arrests of 2 boxers.
Looks like it is official that Lochte will be suspended by both USA Swimming and U.S. Olympic Committee; however it doesn’t say for how long or what is happening to the other three swimmers.
So forgive me but I was busy today…was there no shakedown at all? Or is the story that he lied to his mother about what happened and it took off in social media. I see he’s apologized for his story, (lies to mom) but I can’t tell whether there really was a shakedown and a security person with a gun drawn, from what little time I’ve had or even if there was really bathroom vandalism. And if there was no vandalism then why the payments? If no one responds, I will google all this and try to catch up.
Momofthreeboys, the upshot is that the 4 swimmers stopped at the gas station to use the restroom but the door was locked. They broke the door down and damaged other property there. An arms security guard accosted them and the swimmers gave the station money in order for the guard to let them go. The swimmers then told the mom of one of them they were robbed, and she told the press.
But then didn’t Lochte also lie to the police or other Brazilian authorities (after the mother broke the story to the press)? I’m not sure; I haven’t been following the story closely, but obviously that would be very bad.
I think there is video evidence showing that the guard drew his gun.
Yes, both Lochte and Feigen made statements to the police which contained false info. The other two did not make statements to the police prior to being hauled off the plane. They then gave testimony discrediting Lochte’s and Feigen’s statements.
Why the need to tell Mom anything? Unless the gas station security guys cleaned you so completely out of money and credit cards that you didn’t have enough to live on until you could fly home, why tell her anything? It will just upset her and drag more people into it. A parent’s first instinct when their kid is in trouble in a far away land is to try to intervene and provide help.
“Why the need to tell Mom anything?”
Especially when you are 32 years old!!
Thanks…I had not seen anything that confirmed that there was vandalism…only the handing over of money and my husband said it was reported today that one of the swimmers coughed up ten grand today…unconfirmed, but that’s what my husband heard. The whole thing just seems off on both the swimmers part and the Brazilian local officials but I’m sure our trusty media will ferret out the truth and I’ll read about it tomorrow
@momofthreeboys See my post #625 today. The $10K was a charitable donation Feigen made that his lawyer arranged in lieu of charges being made for giving false testimony. Seems fair to me. Stating it as “coughed up” makes it sound like something he should not have done. Any apologists for these 4 should think about what the reaction would be if 4 foreigners came to our country, got drunk, acted inappropriately and then made false statements to the press and the police. I don’t think we’d take a “boys will be boys” stance on the matter. They are not children.
The 2 swimmers that were taken off the plane, Bentz and Conger, made a statement that a sign was broken and that they peed on the side of the building. There are also reports of a door being kicked and broken. Bentz and Conger’s statements support the side of the Brazilian police.
Was Lochte’s mother. In Rio or back in the states?
Thanks for posting the link to Sally Jenkins’s column about Ryan Lochte. Post #609. My first exposure to America’s bad boy stereotype was John McEnroe in the early 80s. It’s people like Ryan Lochte who perpetuate it more than 30 years later. His apology was merely a cut & paste statement from his agent.
With regards to Gabby Douglas, I feel she was unfairly singled out. I believe like her decision not to put her hand over her heart was blown out of proportion. In my opinion, it was not newsworthy.
Can we quit talking about Ryanwhat’s his name and focus on a better Ryan? Go Team Crouser! What a great young man winning shot put last night.
More good news . Sandi Morris a SC native just won silver in the pole vault.
Didn’t watch much of the Olympics so I’m a bit confused on the hand over heart failure by the young gymnast during the national anthem - we never did that in school. We put our hand over our heart during the Pledge of Allegiance and just sang the Star Spangled Banner. In fact at the football games recently I noticed some of the folks putting their hand over their heart during the nat’l anthem but my husband and I and a lot of other folks our age did not - it’s not a sign of disrespect we just grew up not doing that - not sure why you should anyway. Those that do also put their hand over their heart when the band plays God Bless America and other patriotic songs. Silly to deride a young girl for not doing it.
Sorry to disagree @doschicos but a $ 10,000 donation tied to receiving his passport back seems excessive to me, and pictures shown on the Today show showed limited damage to the bathroom. I’m not excusing their behavior, but there is a 3 minute lapse of video coverage , and the security guard was shown to have his gun drawn. I just feel like there is more to the story that needs to come out .
