Interesting but lane bias is present in most every race and sport. The main problem is the tiny fractions of a second between winning and losing.
Perhaps it’s better to call it a day on the Olympics and just be done with it.
I like to watch people race, I like to watch great athletes. I enjoy seeing the variety of sports.
I’m usually impressed by their skills but there isn’t much difference between them in the long run. I don’t count the athlete who comes in some tiny fraction of a second ahead of number two as the better athlete. In fact the really good guy might have been left out or sitting home with the flu. I
Ok now I feel bad for Ryan Lochte. I don’t know what happened on DTWS but it had to have been unnerving.
^^ Yes, that was really strange! I read online that a guy rushed the stage after throwing something at him. Here’s a site with a picture of 2 guys they handcuffed.

I’m no fan of Lochte but he sure didn’t deserve that. His dance wasn’t half bad, either!
Besides those guys, there were others in the audience wearing No Lochte shirts. This makes me think that the show was courting controversy. They could have excluded them. (perhaps the shirts were worn under other shirts?)
Yes, I read that they took off their regular shirts to reveal the No Lochte shirts underneath.
When you think of all the issues about which to protest, those folks felt strongly about this one? I mean, if you had to tell your boss why you were arrested last night, that’s what you would have to say?
Let’s be honest. He’s on the show because he’s a controversial figure. It’s all part of the “entertainment”.
I wonder too about how anyone would feel so strongly about Lochte that they would risk getting arrested. The cynical part of me wonders if they just want their chance in front of the cameras.
The cynical part of me wonders if this was all a publicity stunt by Lochte’s PR team to garner sympathy.
‘Let’s be honest. He’s on the show because he’s a controversial figure. It’s all part of the “entertainment”’
Well, he was already signed for DWTS before the ugly Rio incident. So how controversial was he before that? I thought of him mostly as a Pretty Boy who was also a talented swimmer but who mostly lost the big races to Michael Phelps. Were there other prior controversies that I missed?
Watching the Paralympics on TV. Some of it is just fascinating - like watching the sight-impaired runners running with guides, and I am surprised how exciting the wheelchair track racing is.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I will assume that any further discussion of Ryan Lochte and Dancing with the Stars will be posted on the DWTS thread; even though RL is a contestant, DWTS is not even tangentially related to the Rio Olympics.

I wish I could catch more of the Paralympics coverage. Amazing and entertaining. I saw a clip of the table tennis player without send who holds the paddle in his mouth. The basketball players. The swimmers. The hand cyclists. So cool!
This is sad and wasteful. Not unusual for Olympic venues to fall into disuse and repair, despite the many $$ spent, but this is just 6 months later. Plus environmental costs of creating something to be used for such a short period of time, the epitome of a throwaway society.
Wow, it did not take long. What a waste, indeed. Sad about the Aquatic Center… but that was expected.
Yikes. More fuel for the argument that the Olympics should have a permanent home somewhere to cut down on the inevitable waste and corruption associated with changing of venues every 4 years.
