RIP Robin Williams

^^ One of my favorite movies!

My mother has Parkinson’s the medications have done wonders for her physical condition, but there is no question that they have affected her mental health.

My mom died of complications from Parkinsons. Not fun.

I always feel so sad when I think of Linda Ronstandt losing her voice. She seems to be adapting well, and says that she is happy she can still walk. But it’s an awful disease.

We’ve been reading many stories of Robin Williams compassion in the past couple days.
Here’s a couple more.

I was listening to a radio program that was talking about his death and said, “But there are still unanswered questions, like whether he left a suicide note.” I was livid. No, there are no unanswered questions as far as we, the general public, are concerned. We are not his loved ones, and it is none of our G.D. business how he specifically died, exactly how he was found, where he was pronounced dead, whether he left a suicide note, etc. Our morbid curiosity does not justify poking around in his private business. As someone whose family has been affected by suicide, it really upset me to hear this.

Pizzagirl, sorry about your loss.

I agree with you. None of our business.

I couldn’t load that first clip well but found it as part of this one:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/12/showbiz/robin-williams-lives-touched/index.html</a>
He did a lot of things like that, out of the spotlight.

Public people are public people in life and in death. Anyway, the Parkinson’s revelation came from his wife.

If anyone is interested in the research about deep brain stimulation as treatment for depression (that my D had talked about) , here is some info about it. There will be a TV segment about it on CNN on Saturday afternoon and then again on Sunday evening. More info here:
<a href=“Emory neurologist's work on deep brain stimulation for depression to be featured on CNN”>http://news.emory.edu/stories/2014/08/er_takenote_mayberg_on_cnn/campus.html</a></p>

Flossy - there’s a difference between a wife (or family member) volunteering information, and a radio program suggesting we are owed details of his death.

Read an article that said Robin didn’t kill himself. That his death wasn’t a suicide. That he died from depression.

Thoughts?

Churchmusicmom, I watched the clip. Very cool.

There are still unanswered questions is just a fact. But, I don’t think we are owed anything. What I do think is that there has been a whole lot of speculating about depression, etc. without a clear picture of what exactly happened in this case making it all rather unhelpful. If people are going to talk about how he died-and they are-details do matter.

Nome of this is our business. Period.

A huge difference.
I don’t think we deserve any details, and I think that the individuals who are harassing his family, should be put in the stockade and shamed.
Thank you for the link churchmusicmom.
Both my parents suffered from depression and it killed my father when he was in his early 40’s.
The condition of mental health care, and sparse coverage by insurance is really a travesty in this country.

Well, his friends and co-workers are all over the television speculating and reporting on what they observed in the past year. His wife is releasing statements to the press, police are going into minute detail at news conferences, and toxicology results are expected, so it’s not over yet. And, this thread is nearing 200 posts so there is clearly some interest.

@Niqqui77 - That bothers me a lot because there was obviously much more going on than we know or probably will ever know. Not to mention the fact that he had plenty of treatment and access to plenty more so what does that mean for someone suffering from depression. It’s not a great message. imho.

Why are the police releasing this info in the first place? Why is it in the public domain?

The California Public Records Act. They went further than anyone expected at that news conference, though. Of course, suicides are not usually news at all.

The details of Robin Williams’s death are supposed to be public record.
