RIP Yogi Berra

[Quote]
“I heard a story that when they were teammates in the 50’s, Yogi, Whitey (Ford), Mickey (Mantle) and Billy (Martin) all bought these huge tracks of land in central Florida,” Kay said. “…And as time went on, each guy sold his plot of land. …Yogi for some reason held onto his, kept holding on, kept holding on. …And you know what? That plot of land was directly in the middle of where Disney World now stands. And Disney had to offer him and pay him an awful lot of money just to build Disney [World]. That’s the magic of Yogi Berra.”

^^Was that Michael Kay? He was in my class in HS.

yes it was.

He grew up in the Bronx. Says he was very poor

Saw on FB the Empire State Building was lit up in pinstripes last night in memory of Yogi.

There were not many well to do people who attended NYC public schools in the 70s. Most were middle or lower income. I didn’t know Kay, but friends all say he was doing play by play of Yankee games even then.

Happen to have a baseball signed by the '61 Yankees. Kinda sad that its value just went up a notch.
