rising junior scheduling mini-rant

My daughter’s medium sized university (10,000) has exactly one French 2 class. All her classes had to be arranged around this class. There is also just one basic math class that she needs, but it conflicts with the just one art class she needs as a pre-reque to other classes in her major, so she’s putting off the math class (again).

In my day in high school, orchestra was first period (and band too, so you had to choose). Some honors sections of the basic classes (geometry, algebra 2) were only offered during one period, so you had to choose. The world didn’t end if you weren’t in the honors section, you just took the regular class like the other 250 kids taking geometry (and got the nice teacher, not the mean one who taught honors)
