Reflection:
Rank in class and GPA were adversely affected by competitive high school. Not many ECs, but strong record of dedication and accomplishment in music. Modest volunteer record compared to many peers. The school is a good match for his personality and a lot of genuine interest was expressed. Likely will attend U of R or Case Western.
Strengths:
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: Demonstrated how he fit the mold of typical U of R student and Meloria ideals.
Weaknesses: Volunteer hours and diversity of ECs
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Stats that fit, though didn’t exceed, the norm coupled with genuine interest, a good interview, and strong music background. The ethnic and geographic diversity factors probably also helped.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: Case Western, Pitt, Iowa, SLU, Texas A&M (Blinn TEAM) and Trinity U; Deferred: Tulane, RPI, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; Rejected: Rice (ED), UT-Austin (offered CAP), Georgia Tech; Still Waiting: Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Northwestern
