Is anyone still hearing or waiting for admission news, or is that all set?

Best wishes to all for a great time at Ross 2009.

Best wishes to all for a great time at Ross 2009.

I’ve been looking at past group pictures of Ross students, and its surprising how many of them are male! Not just most, but more than 9/10, I would guess.

I think the admissions process should be over now, but that’s just a guess because the camp starts in less than two weeks.

I’m fairly sure the admissions process is closed as a friend who applied was denied admission because all spots were filled.

Just a final question: what happens if we can’t finish the problem sets?

Depending on your age and grade placement, you can come back the following year. How many you get done during the first summer is definitely noted by the program staff.

oh, is there just one problem set over the entire 8 weeks?
i thought the problem sets were more daily/weekly and we would get them checked or go over them on a regular basis?

There are a lot of problem sets. You have the opportunity at Ross to learn a lot of number theory. The problem sets will be checked carefully to make sure you have done thorough work. That’s why there are so many staff for a comparatively small number of students.

Are there any supplies not mentioned in the admission’s packet that you would recommend bringing?

[My son just typed out the answer below. He’ll be a Ross Program junior counselor this summer, as I’ve mentioned before.]

I don’t exactly remember what the packet says to bring, but I can list some things that are good to have, but not strictly necessary.

Calculator, Frisbee, athletic shorts, iPod and speakers, Rubik’s cube, recreational reading, lots of pens, flash drive (in case you have things to work on, and need to use a library computer), some spending money if you like, but you can certainly get by without any.

[That’s what came to mind to him. Have a good summer.]

It may sound like a silly question, but are there hangers in the dorm closets?

THis is the link you can see what Nosker Hall looks like. I think they don’t have hangers so I will bring some just in case.

I hear there have been some changes in the dining center hours at the south end of campus this summer.

Will this look good on an MIT application?

MIT gets some great applicants, so it’s hard for any one thing to look impressive on an MIT application, but, yes, involvement in the Ross Program shows genuine dedication to the study of math.

yeah ok, but will this increase your chances?

What would you do otherwise?

I love programming, so I cant find any good programming camps near Pittsburgh.

how would being a Ross alumni look on college admissions? just a simple positive material? or more like a selective quality?
