For the application, how are y’all addressing the question about long range goals and the research fields question? Also, how disadvantaged would you be if your scores aren’t as good and you don’t have many STEM related awards?
Do we need a score report for like the MAA exams as well or just the standardized testings?
Also how are you guys writing your rewards. Are you just listing the names or explaining them?

Can students submit without teachers having submitted recommendation letters?
@Olympiadmom in 2016, they said “For the 2016 RSI, the deadline for domestic applications is January 22, 2016. The deadline for all transcripts and score reports, and also all recommendations, is January 26, 2016.”

@Olymiadmom the recommendations for teachers are actually due an jan 15th, same day as applications, but you can submit before they do

@EiPi @nvb123 Yes, transcripts have to be official. Your counselor should upload the most recent one that’s available; if it’s not fully up to date that’s fine, I think my transcript only had 1st quarter grades on it.
@recvolleyball Just write about your goals as they stand today. They don’t have to be fully definite, though you should write about a general subject or two that you’d be interested in pursuing in college as well as a possible career/degree/path you would be interested in. As long as you show your interest in STEM and don’t seem too wishy washy about what you want to do, you should be good.
@phaseshift Thanks for answering the questions! I didn’t have any college transcripts, so I can’t really say whether they have to be official or not, but my guess is to get an official transcript if possible.
@exa526 I’m not sure but if you can’t get a MAA score report on your own then you probably don’t need it.
@qubitqween @Olympiadmom I would try to get them in by the deadline, but many programs and colleges do have some sort of grace period for recommendations since they’re out of your control. I would contact RSI if your teachers can’t submit on time, and yes, you can submit the application without your recs being submitted yet.
@nvb123 Congrats!!! I remember being in government class when I got the acceptance email out of the blue… I definitely wasn’t expecting it, so have fun waiting!
@OleColtrane Great. I had my counselor upload my most up-to-date transcript with first semester junior year grades on it as well. The wait is going to be tough but just hope for the best I guess! Thanks for all your support!
If I want to submit an evaluation form with grades and comments and stuff from a program I did, how could I do that? Does that count as another transcript?
@Anonymousia I believe you have to have your counselor submit this extra transcript in addition to your school transcript. You aren’t able to upload transcripts anywhere on the application.
@OleColtrane Hello, I was wondering how you differentiated your answer for these two questions on the personal statements:
- What activities and/or hobbies demonstrate your leadership, creativity and uniqueness?*
- Describe your participation in extracurricular or community outreach activities?*
@OleColtrane For the long term goals question, is it necessary that I include a quantifiable goal, i.e. I want to create X that accomplishes Y? And if so, how much detail should I provide about how I plan to do it?
