Rutgers instate vs Wesleyan for Neuroscience - is the cost worth it

I’m going with Rutgers. As much as I would love to experience Wesleyan I can’t really justify the cost.

Believe it or not…I would stick with Rutgers at this point. people tend to underestimate Rutgers, but if you do well there, you will get your pick of medical schools. Plus there is UMDNJ which is solid for medical school.

Why, “believe it or not”?

Wesleyan is highly regarded and considered “prestigious”, one of the top LACs in this country. Rutgers is an excellent university, but not exactly prestigious. But with that said, Rutgers has a lot going for it and many do well with a degree from Rutgers. Honestly, the person wouldn’t lose either way, but from a financial and practical standpoint, Rutgers might be the better fit. We rely too much on college “prestige”, but there’s a ton of factors to consider in picking the right college.

That’s fair.

I’m a fan of Wesleyan, but I will say about Rutgers that it is a stellar research university. The Big Ten is not just an athletic conference; it is also an academic and research partnership. They only invite universities which they consider to be up to the standards of the rest of their membership. When they offered Rutgers a membership 14 years ago, they were certifying their academic standing.
