She’ll probably want to find a place down by Rogers Park, say. Once you get away from campus, things get quite a bit cheaper, especially if she can find a roommate. Although even the housing up by Noyes and Ridge is a great deal cheaper (probably about 2/3 the cost) than something closer to campus. Uhhhhhhh. Lincoln Park might be another one, that’s down by DePaul. There are a few other neighborhoods that could be pretty cheap, but I don’t know them off the top of my head.

Just about the job prospects re. engineering: Most of the students here seem to be in a pretty good position. There’s an internship database that the university maintains, and there are a handful of job/internship fairs that go on. I know that linkedin, accenture, and a few other companies have done their own recruiting events on campus. Just seems worth mentioning. Not chemE companies, but just for perspective. I’m not in McCormick, so I can’t be any more specific.

Gen chem and orgo are pretty grueling, particularly since there’s a pile of pre-med students floating around here. If she can get through those and the math courses she needs, then she’ll be all right.
