Sacramento offers pretty much anything you could want in a city (although, obviously, not on the scale of Los Angeles or NYC)

Sacramento has great shopping (several very large malls, including Arden Fair, downtown plaza, and the Roseville Galleria), decent nightlife (numerous clubs, etc.), entertainment venues (of all kinds… concerts, comedy, whatever), and lots of great dining. Sacramento is by no means “boring” or “small,” but if you’re looking for something more, San Francisco is within driving distance. And Lake Tahoe and some great skiiing/snowboarding is only a couple hours east of Davis. As far as Sacramento itself is concerned, if you’re looking for something to do, it’s probably large and diverse enough for you to find it.

Check out this link to Sacramento Magazine. Obviously this isn’t representative of everything to do in Sacramento - and it’s a few years old - but it gives some idea of what Sacramento’s like.
