Sad to see DD prep high school didn't make the Forbes top 20 prep school!

This thread needs to be put out of its misery.

Dont know where that quote is from, and not getting pulled back into this nonsense.
TOTALLY agree with collegealum.

nychomie - While your comments have indeed been civil, they have also been arrogant, elitist, condescending, and full of your opinions (based on your limited experience) stated as if they were facts. I am sorry that you cannot see that. It’s very plain to the rest of us.

Like jym626 and collegealum314- I have no desire to comment any further and hope this thread dies a quick death.

Have a good evening.

Hey, I was an English major who never took a math class in college and I got 750 on the math portion of the GRE. My verbal score was 50 pts higher.

Yup, that’s me all right.

And Consolation also raises adorable children! Hey there. Checking in late, knowing absolutely nothing about prep schools. I did hear it is -25 degrees in Hanover.

Join me in the Parent’s Cafe…I’m starting a new thread called “The Bragging Thread”…anything goes.

<<join me=“” in=“” the=“” parent’s=“” cafe…i’m=“” starting=“” a=“” new=“” thread=“” called=“” “the=”" bragging=“” thread"…anything=“” goes.=“”>></join>

:)

We could clear this up right away if everyone whose children do not/did not attend a top rated prep school or college would respect the insinuated requirement credentials to be eligible to post on CC.

ALAS. The riff-raff will always be with us!!

<<we could=“” clear=“” this=“” up=“” right=“” away=“” if=“” everyone=“” whose=“” children=“” do=“” not=“” did=“” attend=“” a=“” top=“” rated=“” prep=“” school=“” or=“” college=“” would=“” respect=“” the=“” insinuated=“” requirement=“” credentials=“” to=“” be=“” eligible=“” post=“” on=“” cc.=“”>></we>

toblin - does it count that my kids attended top rated private international schools??? :)

Hey, maybe in the theme of independence, experience, diversity, etc - those schools might even “trump” elite US schools!!! Just a thought… (hehehehehe  )

(shoot…so much for no further comments!)

Oh, oh, oh…and my son is in a top Honors college??? Really, I’m trying SOOO hard to be worthy of CC!!!

That is what I said getting above 750 on GRE math is piece of cake and everyone gets it. I was talking about the analytical portion specifically.

Your facetious dig at cc elitists would have more teeth if your username wasn’t an obvious allusion to the fancy-pants chocolate Toblerone.

For some of us, good ol’ Hershey is just fine.

Sorry, couldn’t resist one last ad hominem attack before I left the thread. I think it’s particularly creative.

Grcxx3 and jym626 are gone because they can’t point out where I was being “elitist”? I’m not surprised.

Let’s move on and stop this name-calling nonsense.

Toblerone is Band-Candy.

<<grcxx3 and=“” jym626=“” are=“” gone=“” because=“” they=“” can’t=“” point=“” out=“” where=“” i=“” was=“” being=“” “elitist”?=“” i’m=“” not=“” surprised.=“”>></grcxx3>

Not gone, just not interested in playing anymore. If you can’t see the “elitist” attitude in your posts (and there are several posters who have commented on it), then nothing we say or do will make any difference. So there is no point in any further discussion. You’re completely blind to the way you come across to others, and THAT is what makes me concerned for your future.

“Your facetious dig at cc elitists would have more teeth if your username wasn’t an obvious allusion to the fancy-pants chocolate Toblerone.”

Does liking this chocolate make me an elitist?

I protest, POIH: you are denigrating my natural brilliance. “Everyone” does not get a 750 on the math portion of the GRE; in fact, the vast majority of science and engineering and economics majors did not. And, to make me even more brilliant, I didn’t study for it for a single minute.

BTW, back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and I took the GRE, there was no analytical section. So I can’t claim bragging rights there. :D

Thank you, Olymom. So do you. S is in DC doing an internship, so he is escaping the extreme cold we are experiencing in New England. Time to go replace the chickens’ frozen water yet again!

^^ In further protest: I am “naturally brilliant” and yet I have a nagging suspicion that I scored below 750 on my GRE math (the aforementioned brilliant mind has forgotten the exact score). I am pretty sure that I scored above 700, EVERYBODY scores above a 700.

Oh, and I did take the analytical portion and I thought it was quite fun. I don’t remember that score either but of course, I scored somewhere in the 700’s, because NOBODY gets less than 700 :)

This rankings game is a tragic business causing needless anxiety, anguish, and outright pain.

It calls to mind a tragedy that tangentially touched our family several years ago. A son of friends of ours, more accurately acquaintences, from our building on 5th (ours park facing, theirs park “view”) was rejected from the meaningful Ivies (resulting from weak intellect, a lack of vigor, and decidely indifferent lineage) and enrolled in Dartmouth. Sadness and understandable social awkardness ensued and the boy’s family understandably became quite withdrawn.

Against this backdrop, we graciously invited the forlorn family to attend one of our less important social functions, it simply seemed like the right thing to do; enough but not too much. The evening was a raging success and the family began to regain some of their lost social standing. Until the next revision of the USNWR rankings arrived - sadly Dartmouth plunged deeper still into the depths of academic mediocrity.

Unfortunately, that blow proved fatal. The family was relegated to third and fourth tier charitable functions, some of which were open to the general public. They sold their 5th Avenue apartment, packed up and moved to Madison. Needless to say, we have never seen them again, although we have heard reports, form our doorman, that they were seen in the Macy’s Herald Square - we discount the story as outrageously implausible - but you never know.

Sad.

Ah, Stats21, noblesse oblige can be so bothersome. But, one must do what one’s station requires.

It probably is better that you have not seen them again. Is so true that “blood will tell.”

How true. I am so ashamed that my S is a Dartmouth student that I can barely face the neighbors and only visit the supermarket at very late or early hours so as to avoid meeting former friends, and then heavily veiled.
