Sad

Tyler: I agree that the 3.0 could be sticky for a middle-class white male with average essays and no particular distinguishing characteristics. On the other hand it could perfectly fine if you have other factors in your application: 1st generation applicant, economically disadvantaged, etc. I have always said that kids like that deserve all the advantage they can get, and I would not feel terrible if my D lost her chance at Chicago to such a kid. What drives me nuts is crap like this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/brown-university/429451-chance-african-american-girl.html

All the privilege and advantages in the world, yet would receive special consideration based solely on extraneous factors.

To sum it up, apply anyway. If you really, really love Chicago it will show in the application. The worst that can happen is a rejection letter and a wasted $60 fee. As long as you don’t start thinking that you will be unhappy anywhere else, you will be fine.
