@londondad – have you heard of the perhaps overused term ‘Tufts Syndrome’?
If a school says that demonstrated interest and/or an interview is important and a student ignores this advice, a rejection or at least WL may follow.
I think colleges also look at a HS’s historical matriculation. Schools are protecting yield and do not want to extend offers of admission to those they determine are using the school as a safety.
@londondad If a school has an optional essay and the applicant chooses not to write it. If SAT II’s are recommended and the student chooses not to submit them etc. That would show lack of interest.
Thanks. I was just curious regarding one of the schools mentioned above as my son did not show any interest and did not visit and got in with a Merit Scholarship.
If she loves Case, definitely check out U Rochester (not the same school as RIT). Many kids who like one also like the other. Often the difference is either finances or which type of campus they prefer (urban for Case, bubble in a city for URoc). A difference for her to consider might be what research projects are going on in engineering.
I believe it’s easier to double major at URoc with their fairly open curriculum.
If cost is not a concern, Penn St is considered better than Pitt for engineering. If you want to save $$, Pitt is likely to offer more money.
Va Tech is another well known/loved Engineering college around here and worth a look if she likes Penn St.
@ClarinetDad16 , we actually have both Emory and GA Tech on the list, as she might want to do a dual degree and use her AP credits to finish in 4 years? Do you think GA Tech is match for her? Or is it a high match or a reach?
