We have the National Park Pass and have never been able to bypass the line of cars at Cabrillo. The bypass lane is intended for employees, military personnel, and certain government employees. We’ve asked about it and that’s what we learned. Not sure what Uber/Lyft drivers are allowed to do.
^We just visited a few weeks ago and a ranger stood out front to greet each approaching car. Those with passes were diverted to the bypass while others moved to the long line waiting to pay. Perhaps it’s just something they do on busy weekends, we visited on a Sunday.
That’s possible; we avoid the weekends unless we have company.
Do you like baseball? Petco Park (in the Gaslamp district) is one of my favorite baseball parks.
All of the museums in Balboa Park are worth a visit.
I hope the locals can help me out. We visited a park away from the beach with a light picnic lunch. We were delighted to watch Quinceanera and wedding photo shoots.
Off topic but if you visit Chicago on a Saturday during the summer the Quinceanera photo shoots at The Bean can be a really cheap amazing experience.
I think I say this every time someone asks about San Diego. If you have time, drive out to Jullian. It’s a great little “mountain town” and their claim to fame is awesome (and it’s awesome) apple pie. The town is like a New England town plunked in the southern CA mountains. We loved it.
We also drive over to Coronado and walk the beach near the hotel Del…and have lemonade and ice tea on the porch there. Such beautiful homes, and the beach is beautiful.
We had dinner in Old Town one time. It was fine…but there are so many other wonderful places to go…I’d put it last on my list.
I think they are Ubering. We would drive up to Julian when we lived in Orange County (Coto de Caza near Mission Viejo)— just for their pies. That would be really expensive pie(s), via Uber (and their pies aren’t cheap to begin with). Also love walking Coronado! We should hang out more often…
