San Francisco--any tips?

Thanks everyone! We did use a lot of your suggestions. Just got back exhausted after 4 days hoofing it around SF. Ate a lot too, though. You guys are the best!

I can’t help much with the food as most of my experience in SF was as a starving grad student … I do think a couple classic tourist things are musts in SF …

 1. Take the cable cars … it is great way to see a lot of downtown … the cable car museum is pretty good also if a transportation museum is of interest.
 2. Check out Lambard street (the curvey street on the hill) … it is right off the cable car line.

Some other things I really like

 • Fisherman’s Wharf … pretty crowded and pretty touristy … but a great place to walk around for while
 • Chinatown … another fun place to walk around
 • The Alcatrez tour … I planned this mostly for the ferry ride (to the prison in the day and return at night) … but the tour was a lot better than I expected … and the view from the ferry ride is amazing.
 • If you like baseball take in a game a Pac Bell … the stadium is pretty nice … and the location on the bay is amazing

San Francisco is a terrific city to visit … I would gladly travel back and forth from Boston to spend a day in SF … have fun.
