D24 accepted to Arts and Sciences. I believe her intended major is public health but she is also interested in kinesiology/physical therapy (which they don’t have), but she loved the school (it wasn’t even on her radar until I tacked it on to a visit to Cal because it was kind of close) and starting researching majors she would be interested in that could correlate to kinesiology/physical therapy.

Stats:
White/Hispanic, but no other hooks, and not first gen. college
3.97 UW/4.21 W
Class Rank: 21/103 (about 25% of the class has a 4.00 or above)
High School: Catholic (Diocese Supported)
Area: Inland Empire of SoCal
ECs: varsity tennis x 4; song (cheer) team, competition dance team (competed National-11), completed 150 volunteer hours (100 req. to graduate; most came from drama tech crew-11; others from a few other local organizations); school ambassador (10-12)
Leadership: tennis captain 12, tennis MVP 10, and 11.
AP: 3 APUSH (11), 4 AP World (10); taking AP Bio, and AP GOV in 12th. Other honors include: AP Lit, AP Lang, AP Statistics, Honors Anatomy, and Honors Spanish. (Looking back she could’ve taken honors geometry through honors pre calculus, but when she was a freshman it was covid and she had algebra in 8th grade (k-8 Catholic) and I didn’t know how good the algebra she learned really was).

Terrific!! Yeee Hawww!!!

Deferred. 4.3 weighted/3.8 UW. Tons of leadership, volunteering, 4 years varsity sport, great LORs. Applied to psych. Does anyone know if stays in for RD are chances of merit aid gone by being deferred from EA? No way can we pay for SCU without merit so trying to help DD be realistic.

D23 was deferred last cycle (from EA) and was offered merit in RD (at the very end) -but only 16k which was not enough to make it work for our family.

They actually they called her and made the offer over the phone - I guess she could have pushed back to try to get more $$ but at that point she had a full ride elsewhere (and was fed up with their process).

Is there a way to find out how many students they admitted and deferred for early action?

Son accepted EA! Econ major. 3.78 weighted; no test scores; job as lifeguard, varsity sports, demonstrated interest. Super excited and top choice

Not sure about SCU in this regard, but many schools do a press release with this sort of info. Harvard and Yale do this for example. They broke out admits, deferrals, and rejections. Anyway it may be worth keeping an eye out for this. Though, I’ve not tracked SCU historically so maybe someone who has been through the process in the last few years can chime in about this.

Yes, and Merit decisions should come to the portal as an additional ā€˜Update’ in the next days.

Here is SCU’s press release from last year, announcing a 49% acceptance rate for early decision/early action. I don’t believe they share how many were deferred to regular decision.

Also interested to know the answer to this.

ETA: looks like the website says they send an email about this shortly after being admitted. Presumably that means in the next few days, akin to the merit email.

My son was deferred and it’s surprising to us as he has a higher gpa than most people on here, Varsity Hockey captain, leader in school clubs, goes to a magnet school where he takes all honors and AP classes and has to have a major at his school. His major is Accounting. He just Aced his VITA exam with the IRS to do taxes. We are a high income, white, Catholic, all educated family.

D got in!!! 3.8 UW/4.15W several IB/Dual Credit classes, Biology Major. No word on merit scholarships/financial aid yet
