SAT Math Thread

If it was in the same section as the grid, then it wasn’t experimental

ahh, I read the question wrong.

satquestion@info.collegeboard.org If you felt the nutrition label problem was unfair to those unfamiliar with nutrition labels, such as immigrants, then email the Collegeboard.

We are trying to get the question nullified: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1252124-dec-2011-sat-1-math-question-nutrition-label-problem.html

@don

7 pencils remained, and the problem stated that the final person took “half” - 1, meaning 7 = 1 + “half.” “Half” therefore equals 6. 6*2 = 12

There were 12 pencils before the final person took hers.

@arc Thanks! I forgot my answer, so I wanted to redo my work.

i dont think the .54 or .55 will count. if i remember correctly, in the problem it said what is the fractional value which implies that it wants the answer in fraction-form

^ I really don’t remember it saying fractional.

I think it said percentage or ratio one or the other, not fractional

It definitely said fractional. And do you guys remember the question about the length of the arc? I totally forgot how to do it and put 110 but that’s not right I think.

And also, there was this problem that said that the number of people increased by a constant percentage and in ‘95 it was 4.5 mil and in 98’ it was 4.8. What was the answer to that?

^Oh the question to that one was what was the number of people in '96

I think I put like 4.65 for that one xD

and I don’t think it was increase. Rather I believe it was decrease and that it went from '95 4.8 to '97 4.5 and you were suppose to find the arithmetic mean of the decrease, then find out how much it was for the year 96, but then again I might be remembering the question wrong

@arc, No, I’m quite sure that it was 4.6. I think it said from like 95-98 and 95 was 4.8 and 98 was 4.5 so 97 is 4.7.

@tomorrow i thought it was the opposite way around but i think i’m remembering the question incorrectly :(

If the question was a MC, I think I got it right xD meaning I might have either chosen 4.6 or something can’t remember

Regardless of whether it said fractional or not, I think they still always interpret fractions as three separate answers.
4/73
.054 (truncated)
.055 (rounded)

I’ve never seen a test where they only accepted one of the above because the “question specified it.”

^sigh I put .55 as well

Right 4/73 or .055, I put the latter

.054 also works? Thats nice

Okay, I’m officially removing myself from this thread and will wait for the scores to come out.

Got through a couple scares like the vending machine problem, and thus far I have come out with 0 wrong, guaranteeing at least a 2340 superscore. I’ll really need that score if I get rejected from Duke ED a little over a week from now.

Best of luck to all of you!

The question definitely said something like what fraction of people were Asian but they should accept the decimal too. As for the population one i think it was this. 4.8 in 1995 and 4.5 in 1998. What was the population growth in 1997 i believe? So it was 4.6. Now that i think about that i think i put 4.7 XD Looks like my scores are going down. I blame it on lack of sleep and motivation haha

Golfingtee7: I think I screwed up on that one too. ouchhh ><
