SAT May 2009 CR

heh? i put recapture for a longish passage…about the russian writers and the south. that one was not experimental, i think.

Sardonic was the obvious answer.

I am 100% sure that the answer is sardonic…
she’s not actually a prodigy…

definitely sardonic. Sardonic means sarcastic.

“She can play chopin of the tips of her fingers. A real prodigy”

How so? She is good at piano, and she might be a prodigy. Nowhere is it suggested that she's actually bad at piano.

yes, she does pretend not to play much.....

(I guess if you consider people that practice people that can't be prodigies... according that logic, it's sardonic. Seems like a stretch though).

oooh are you sure “Recapture” was the word, and not “represent”??

yeah sardonic was right. oh well.

i hated the passage about the literature with the south…blacks…russians.

what did you guys say for the first question for the passage about the “she is a real prodigy” passage?

It is without a doubt sardonic…thats like harshly sarcastic kind of…

powerbomb- im pretty sure, but ive been known to be wrong about these things. i hope it was “represent” though.

on one of the short passages about the authors childhood fascination with words…
the second question dealing with the last sentence, what was the answer?

disdain for current state of literature (? something like that, just clearly remember disdain)
or
attempt to recapture?

I put disdain because she never lost her childhood views…and she said “in spite of literature, career poets, etc”

powerbomb - if you’re referring to this, i’m pretty sure “recapture” was one of the answer choices

Can someone compile all of the hard questions and their answers

some thing about lines 5-11?

Meh, feeling a -2/3 on CR.

rickymatsui, yeah!

oh why couldnt the venice one have counted…that one was laughably easy :(

does anyone remember any SC answers?

how does CR exp work? is 1 ENTIRE section experimental? or are there passages from each section that are experimental?

and to shed more light on the passage,

the author says that as a child, he/she had a love for words for the imagery they evoked. she wants to stay true to this, “in spite of” career poets, literature today etc etc

it was a short passage, only two questions followed.

Confirmed answers
Let’s keep this updated:

flippant;
dismay;
platitudinous…permissible
cavalier?
sardonic
conceited?
WHAT ELSE

im almost 100% portentous/justifiable wasnt the right answer

it was platitudinous and _____

njsterling, and “permissible”.
