SAT May 2012 Official Discussion

-1 on english and a 10 on the essay is usually an 800, correct?

I’m positive I put “E” for the “A/8 + 2/9 = B/72.” I don’t know why, but I thought “E” was 32??? Maybe I’m just confusing 32 and 34.

if a number is in list X, then the number is in list Y.

i put “if a number is not in Y, it’s not in Y”. i think that’s wrong though… :c was it “if a number is not in Y, it’s not in X”?

It’s the contrapositive. if x, then y. the only thing that’s true is if ~y, then ~x.

edit: i was totally wrong-- thanks likeastarr!

did any1 get the counter example of multiples? was it the opposite?

was one of the vocab answers faciell…beleague?

Yeah that question is gonna kill my math score since the math this time was really easy…

@SAT8888SAT
I believe the answer to that was vexing… stymied

does anyone remember the group of 15 people with the oldest being 20 and it asked how many could be 17? i think choices were 4, 10, 14. It was one of those I, II, III questions. I put all could work, since it was about median age being 17.

yea i put vexed/stymied too

i don’t think so… was this the fermat’s last theorem one? remind me.

does anyone remember the writing questions with 20% of songs predicted by professionals… did you put the error as “as likely” or no error? sorry for being so vague lol

(First time SAT taker) was there anyone that DIDN’T get to answer all the questions on any section? My SAT Prep book stressed so much that with the time limit you wouldn’t be likely to answer some questions, so it was best to answer the ones you know first than try to waste time getting through a hard one. But there weren’t any questions I didn’t have time to finish on the exam

i put vexed and stymied too.

anyone remember the Square root of x^2 = 4 question? I kind of laughed when I realized x = 4. SAT TRAP DISABLED

@Paparazzi25
I had problems with timing too at first(not this SAT though), but a lot of people don’t have any problems with timing, so you are not the only one.

@bearbear It was “E,” which was I,II,III for the 17 year old problem.

@Paparazzi
not attempting hard questions is a good strategy for mid level scores (<2000), but to reach the 700s in any given section you should definitely aim to finish them.

No, it was definitely 1/6. Think. 6 X 1/6 = 1. 1 is one greater than the square of K, which was 0.

1) Did any one get “custom” for the discipline of art history one?
2) What about the frozen water one on the writing? I put an error on “so much”, shouldn’t it be “so many”?

And for the essay, I got the is it better to act or communicate feelings? I said its better to communicate feeling. Used Crime and Punishment and personal example.

what were the other choices for vexed/stymied?
