SAT May 2012 Official Discussion

it was 29 & 47

@alvinwolf whether or not zero is an integer might be a debated topic but 1/6 is definitely not an integer and school teach that zero is an integer

it said k had to be an integer not j which was on the left side of the equation, so j could be a fraction

Anyone remember how to do the |ax-1| problem? And was it real or experimental?

for the k^2 the question stated “for what values of k^2…” so you were solving for k^2, not j and therefore the answer is zero and the question also said that something was an integer

@collegenovice i had math experiemental so i’m not sure but you had to do ax-1 > __ (forget the last part) and ax-1 < -___

Darn it all. I was hoping I’d do better on this Math section than I did on the one in March, but I’m pretty sure I made stupid mistakes and got the same amount wrong.

i put 0 for that one. as i went back to check i got to that problem in the last 20 seconds and i thought it might’ve been 1/6 and was about to change it but ruled that out and stuck with 0. i don’t remember the specifics of the question but i’m pretty sure it was 0.

Okay so I’m kind of worried. I use a different pencil on each section and on one of the sections I realized I was using a soft led pencil. I colored over every bubble with a number 2 pencil, but I’m worried that it will screw up everything. This is probably not the place to ask, but do you guys know what will happen and if I fixed anything?

Yeah, I took it in Shanghai. You?

Wait that question asked you to solve for J not K and I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have made it that simple… It was towards the end so maybe a level 4 problem. If it was 0 that’s plug and chug. All you had to do was plug it in. But if they asked for J you would have to make sure the answer was a positive number since sq root of a negative means imaginary.

Hey Guys need some help please…
I chose to recieve the paper scores instead of the online scores…but i was afraid that the paper scores might come later…and i want to see my scores asap…does anyone know if the online scores are still posted even if a person chose paper score option?

pretty sure it was 1/6,
or else the equation wouldnt work

what did everyone get for the problem with two parts and the top part was an absolute value? i think i put 2 but idk

@Luminiz

Yeah, once the scores come out just log into your collegeboard account. You’ll be able to see your scores.

760 reading 790 math 800 writing (80 mc 9 essay) thought i did a lot better with reading but i guess not meh its an ok score i guess…
