SAT Retake b/c it doesn't match ACT?

Hi everyone,

I’m a rising senior. I’ve taken both the SAT and the ACT. On the April 2018 ACT with Writing I got a 35 and 8/12. I didn’t think I’d do that well on the exam and didn’t realize I had signed up to take the June 2018 ACT w/Writing till the week before. I took that as well and I’m sure I got at least a 35 but I doubt I got better than 8 on the essay.

The SAT is a different story, however. I took the May 2018 SAT with Essay and got a 1500 and 19/24. 770 Math and 730 EBRW. With the new concordance tables out, my SAT increased in value: it went from a 33 ACT to 34 ACT.

To almost all of the colleges I’m applying to I’m only going to send these 2 ACT scores. There’s no sense in sending the SAT with a lower concordance. For the schools like Stanford, which require you to send all tests from BOTH agencies (I believe Yale lets you choose if you went to send all ACT OR all SAT), I don’t even think I’ll bother applying if my SAT is so low.

So my end question is: To apply to schools like Stanford which require me to send both SAT and ACT, should I retake my SAT? Another question is, what schools are like Stanford in regards to their testing policy? (All scores from BOTH tests)

No. Your time is better spent elsewhere.

AFAIK, none. But you can look through the following thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-act-tests-test-preparation/1912440-must-you-submit-all-sat-act-or-sat-subject-test-scores-p1.html

Every college admission officer in the country knows that some students do much better on one exam or the other. Don’t worry about this. It really is OK.

Three colleges require you to provide both all SAT and all ACT test scores: Stanford, Georgetown, and Barnard. Any other colleges with an “all scores” rule allow you to submit either all ACTs or, alternatively, all SATs.

Both your test scores are actually high, and despite its all scores rule Stanford asserts that for determining admission it will use that test (SAT or ACT) with the higher scores and will not hold lower scores against you; that is a general rule followed by all colleges. You do not need to retake SAT.

Sorry, for some reason I thought Barnard changed the requirements this admissions cycle. But the OP is male, so Barnard does not apply.

But this is a good time to state that applicants should verify requirements with the target schools, as many change each cycle.

Thank you all for your answers! Seems like the only school I’ll be applying to that requires that crazy All scores from all tests is Stanford. I doubt I’ll retake the SAT then.
