Do you know the equivalent number for the ACT? My kid (current junior) has a 35 super score from two sittings. Would have been a 36 last year, but now that science isn’t counted, it is a 35. Section scores are 35 math (sitting 2), 36 science (sitting 2), 35 reading (sitting 1) and 36 English (sitting 2). Considering a couple of ivies and ivy+ schools. The high school is strong, so while a 35 will definitely be in the top however many scores, there will be some kids with a 36. Worth re-taking to try to get a 36 in either reading or math to get that non science super score up to a 36?
For MIT (math) or Cal Tech, yes. For others, no. 35 is strong.
Some let you submit science.
There are lesser perceived schools - one where a 36 and 4.0 gets you four years free tuition and one year housing so it would be a yes too.
But it’s not Ivy or Ivy plus so not on your list - but the point being, really no need to retake but an 800 SAT/36 math is the cost of entry for many at MIT. Anywhere else high end - focus on other things. 35 is great. Actually quite scary the question even has to be asked.
The stress today is nuts.
Caltech actually considers 35 to be in the same “bucket” as 36. See: Standardized Testing Buckets - Undergraduate Admissions
An ACT score of 35 is outstanding. No need to retake. Congratulations !
I wonder if this will change back again somewhat as the move back to test required for all applicants for most top colleges takes effect in this and next years’ intakes?
