Say it Here ‘Cause You Can’t Say it Directly—The Get it Off Your Chest Thread (NO REPLIES TO OTHER POSTS)

Friends hosted holiday dinners (with everyone else contributing) for almost 30 years. They have decided that they will do something different this year. It’s sad, and certainly a change. And I will be making Thanksgiving dinner for the first time in many years.

I’m sending them a HUGE poinsettia at the beginning of December with a thank you note. They don’t want any “stuff” but this will be a good homage to the holidays.

If you have someone on your block that is Arab or Jewish, chances are they are hurting.
Not reaching out and not saying anything, it shows.
And while we’re at it, Please please make sure hold onto the best part of yourselves this season. Not all of us are part of the dominant religion.

I don’t care who you are, but contacting my DC and expressing concern about me because you’ve “seen my obituary online” is not the way to force me to communicate. And is VERY, VERY UNCOOL! (Even more so when several searches resulted in zero hits that were even remotely close!)

DIL texted to say that her labs were cancelled Thanksgiving week and she can Zoom her two classes, so she and DS will be able to spend the entire holiday week with us instead of just a long weekend. We’re so happy right now; this news has pushed our anxieties aside and focused us on what really matters. I’m giving thanks already.

I wish I knew a good realtor in your area. You need someone else to give you a push to look for a smaller house. Surely this current health scare should motivate you both. You do not need a huge house spread over three levels with no elevator or stair lifts. You can’t enjoy your remodeled bathroom because there are unsafe steps to get to the big tub, and you refused to put in grab bars because you think they look too institutional. You tried to pretend you were in your 50s until you were 69, and you got mad at your husband for admitting his real age. Please face reality before it’s too late. I know you’re scared about his upcoming surgery, but you can’t wish away aging or health problems.

Good luck girl and being appointed to that new position - you’re going to need it.

I got a 5# bag of potatoes and decided to bake them all. 8 potatoes: 3 tiny , 2 medium, 2 large and 1 ENORMOUS. So much for baking them all at the same time/in the same time.

I need new glasses and I do have insurance benefits for this year. I see a retinologist but she can’t do a prescription. Said to go to an optometrist. Okay. Called two different ones in my neighborhood who will do it, but require a retinal exam (it’s their policy, no exceptions), which will cost ME $30 OOP (even though the exam is supposed to be fully covered by my vision insurance). I HAD one last week. I will have another on Dec 5, when I see the retinologist again. What is this optometrist going to tell me after doing the test? ‘You need to see a retinologist! $30 please’

When I’m King, I’m getting a prescription pad and I’m going to write all my own prescriptions

This week a young man who lives nearby ended his life with a gun. He went to a gun store, bought a gun and shot himself all within a couple of hours. It’s just so very sad.

Dear relative: setting up a facebook fundraiser request for donations to your personal “foundation” (of which you are the sole member) is in highly questionable taste, to say the least.

My next door neighbor is in his late 60’s. He has had several heart procedures in the past year, and he’s grown increasingly frail. Friday, he fell at home. By Saturday night, he couldn’t walk. His wife called for an ambulance, and I remarked to my H that I bet he broke a hip. Sure enough, that’s what happened. This couple just keeps getting hit with one bad thing after another. It’s so sad.

Yay, DH and I are travelling to Poland in May to see our son and his wife. DH will be there for one week, and I’ll stay a second week.

I spent only a couple of days with my DIL in Beirut, back in 2018, so I’m really looking forward to getting to know her better. I think we’re a lot alike - both in STEM fields and both planners. She sent me a Google document for our trip that is very detailed!

Married 31 years.

He wants Christmas inflatables for the yard.

I don’t.

We have this disagreement every year.

I must be getting mellow in my old age. It really used to bother me when people put up Christmas decor before Thanksgiving. Now I’m like “bring on the lights!”

You are not a very nice person. Like a cat waiting to pounce.

I wish you’d stay on your side of the street so to speak.

I truly enjoy and love so many of the Insta people I follow. But it is November 18 and I am already sick and saturated by your gift guides and constant posting of all the “things I love and can’t live without”.

I hate the retail world November through December.
