Say it Here ‘Cause You Can’t Say it Directly—The Get it Off Your Chest Thread (NO REPLIES TO OTHER POSTS)

How could you do that? That’s not just a slap in the face; it’s not even a kick in the groin. It’s something that is deeply, enduringly painful. Not a mortal blow, but my heart and soul are breaking at the value you place on some lives over other lives.

Alcatraz. Really.

It would be humorous if it wasn’t so completely idiotic.

My SIL just asked if her fairly new significant other can spend a week with us in the Caribbean this winter. I am both nervous for us and happy for her. The place isn’t that big, and we (including she) are liberal and hear he may not be. We told her yes, and fingers crossed it all works out. I’m pleased she trusts us enough to assume it will go fine, and hopefully it will.

This reads like something from The Onion, lol.

DH was away for a week visiting S2 last Christmas. I used the time productively and cleaned part of the basement. I brought upstairs a small old suitcase that I knew had some of DH’s memorabilia. He sifted through it over a few evenings and was delighted to find his father’s army papers, his parents’ mortage statement from 1965, and a few other sentimental items. He said Yes, he did want to keep some stuff and would buy some accordian folders to store the stuff.

It’s now July. The old suitcase and the accordian folders are still sitting on the coffee table in our TV room. At my most recent mention of this, I got my head bitten off.

Sigh.

A good deed done while holding your nose and looking down on the folks you are helping because they are messy is actually a very sad thing.

Work has started on my 45th HS reunion. The number of people who have died is depressing.

Hello from the Netherlands! I just finished biking day four (and shhhhh, it’s my birthday.)

I can say, with zero hesitation, this is the perfect way to see a lovely country for me. A combination of boating and biking, through storybook villages, small towns, forests, and everything in between - we rode 20 miles this morning (most of us are on e-bikes) and are now boating to Antwerp.

I’ve been putting it off and putting it off and putting it off [for almost a decade now], but I guess I can’t anymore. Time to see the ortho about fixing my knee.

Probably ought to let them look at the other knee with all its “crepitus” while I’m there.

I guess I’m experiencing the circle of life in morning news. Years ago I stopped watching Today after Matt Lauer made Ann Curry cry. Tried GMA for a few years, but switched to CBS Mornings and have been consistently happy until Gayle participated in the promotional space event which seemed to have crossed a line. Now CBS making financial decisions that annoy me, so back to Today it is. I’m going to have a harder time giving up CBS Evening News since I love John Dickerson, but may be moving that viewing slot to NBC as well. I’m sure it doesn’t matter to anyone but me, but…

Day 6 hello from Belgium - Well, I saved this news for now. I’m ok, but 2 of us fell off our bikes quite hard yesterday - I was one of them. I bruised a rib, hurt my (left) knee and got some cuts (nothing really major) - it shook my confidence and while I finished the day, I decided to ground myself from today’s final ride into Bruges. I don’t think my reflexes are what they should be.

I just spoke with my guide, C, and she understands and finds my decision a wise one. The captain had to personally ground the other as he is the oldest man in the world and has fallen 3x this trip, and yesterday he hit his head hard…fortunately he was wearing a helmet (not required in the Netherlands, and IMO far too many in this tour are choosing to go without). Anyway, I slept well, and was able to dress myself (last night I really wasn’t sure how I would do), and at some point the captain will call a taxi for me and the other 3 staying on board to meet everyone in Bruges.

This has been amazing overall, and I’m so glad I did it! Silly as it might sound I could see myself doing the itinerary again…and I might!

So yeah, I’m good, slept in clean underwear and bra (and pjs) last night, anticipating that I might need help dressing this morning, but I’m good. Knee isn’t thrilled with the stairs on board, but I should be fine.

We’re inching into Bruges, and I’m kinda enjoying the boat ride (although I’d have rather ridden in).

Note to all, if you’ve ever dreamt of an adventure, stop reading this post, and go book it, now. For as soon as you can. Time isn’t going to wait for you (or me!), and certainly won’t be kinder to your body. Really.

Who doesn’t love a true yin/yang experience - from yesterday, in Ghent, a city I really want to explore more. There’s a 10 day music festival and we had several hours to experience it in the daytime - apparently it’s quite a scene at night!

I didn’t know where to put this and didn’t want to start a thread as as not to betray someone’s confidence by revealing details.

Here is a PSA:

You aren’t supposed to take Nexium for seven years.

That was a goofy comment, and it is not correct, but I’m not going to argue with you about it.

How can I tell them? Your not in the top 10% oos state kid is likely going to be rejected from UF (and its not FU like they keep typing) and you won’t get instate tuition just because you have a rental property in Florida.

I have been doing the detour out of my neighborhood for 2 months and have 2 more to go. It is a pain but what really annoys me is that the detour street is about 6 blocks long, with 2 stop signs, but the other intersections have ‘dips’ to let water drain (like we’ve had a drop of rain all summer) and so you have to stop at EVERY.single. intersection. For the final one, on to a major street, there is a bike path AFTER the stop sign and it is a blind corner (residential fencing) so you have to stop, then slowly inch up thus blocking the bike path.

Annoying. And a little unsafe.

Department of irony …

On a relative’s wedding website Q&A.
Q. Will either the bride or groom be changing their last name?
A. We both love our respective last names so will not be making any changes at this time.

The invitation came to my husband and me with only his last name, not mine. And I can’t properly RSVP because the website lists me as Jollymama Husbandsname and won’t accept a correction.

(Didn’t change my name at my own wedding, not gonna do it for yours.)

(Not a reply, but further thoughts on my previous post.)
I know it was inadvertent, I’ve emailed the relative, I trust it will be fixed.

And I’m tempted to say, if you don’t change your name(s), you may be in for a lifetime of explanations, as I have been. Is it worth it? Yes, but be aware you are choosing the more difficult path.
