So your “plan” is to arrive here “late” today, but that turned out to mean 2 am. Unless “that could change” in which case you’ll be here tomorrow morning, not today at all. But you’ll let me know. And you “might” want to see people (and that’s understandable) here, that’s a maybe as well.
Trying to stay in my lane, but honestly I have no idea where it is, except people keep telling me none of it really involves me. That if there’s no food, that’s their fault. If their dog runs out of food, it will live. Why don’t I just go buy more? Just do whatever I would do if the dog wasn’t here, sure. Just you know, relax already.
Oh , and that family member? I was right. She doesn’t like me, and is avoiding me. Thank goodness someone saw fit to tell me, finally. Thought I was going crazy there.
So, life handed me an illness that requires a huge amount of discipline and positive action to manage. This is why I don’t scream at the several relatives of mine who have very little discipline or moderation, and who sabotage their own desires for a happier/healthier life. I know that they have not had to do it in order to manage basic life survival. But it’s really frustrating to see how easily they could fix those one or two habits if they understood the important of daily effort. In one case, it’s a habit that will lead to a possibly fatal second heart attack.
Definitely a get it off my chest rant. I hate our obsession with videos. Last week, we had a public incident where someone’s life was in immediate & grave danger. Today, I hear someone (a friend of a co-worker) took a video and is showing people. If you see someone who needs IMMEDIATE help, your first instinct should be to HELP, or if not able, CALL 911! Don’t take a video! And even if by some chance you thought it might help the police - and in this case it didn’t, as there is CCTV that captures the whole area - send the video to the police. The minute you show anyone else, it crosses the line. Nobody needs to see that.
Being ghosted by my CPA who STILL hasn’t completed my 2024 taxes AND has all my documentation…Totally unprofessional on his part.
He hasn’t returned phone calls/voice messages, emails since just before the 4th of July. I stopped my his office yesterday-- it’s is closed up and apparent no has been in there for a while. (Mail spilling out the mail box)
I think it’s time to file a complaint with the state Board of Accountancy.
LOL, my SIL said I should check the obituaries to make sure he’s still alive
Dear RPI,
You’re a fine institution. And while it’s nice that you sent my kid a ‘candidate’s choice application,’ we have no idea what that actually means. Nor will my kid ever apply because you’re in upstate NY, where it’s frigid in the winter. We are in the southwest, where my kid’s idea of a ‘winter jacket’ is a sweatshirt and anything below 75 degrees is ‘cold.’
Dad, it’s going to be very interesting to hear your reaction when my sister and I tell you that there will be dancing and alcohol at my nephew’s wedding in October. We’re going to ask your Lady Friend to be present, because we figure you will behave yourself in front of her. We are NOT going to argue about whether alcohol and dancing are permissible - we’re just informing you and hope you will still attend the wedding. Sigh, so silly.
Not quite a rant, just a little flumoxed. I have been going to the same eye doctor for several years and have to see him 2x year due to medication I take for RA. Today, I let him know what I think about their practice - very calmly and very nicely. When he asked how I was I said I was fine but a little impatient due to the time it takes to get to see the Dr. The practice wanted me there 10 minutes before my appointment time at 8:40. A tech took me back at a little after 9:00 am to use the first eye machine, then to another room for 2 other eye machines, then to another room for dilation and vision testing and then to a waiting room for 25ish minutes to go into the doctors office for another 25ish minutes of waiting. It was 10:45 am before I actually saw the doctor. When I mentioned that I didn’t think it was good to make patients wait 2 hours before seeing the doctor (understanding the techs do the machine work during this time, it is no where near 2 hours), no where near 1 hour. The doctors response was “oh, so you don’t like going to the doctor?” That kind of ticked me off - I have waited at doctors offices, I have NEVER waited anywhere close to that long and I replied with that statement. His next reponse was “so, you want me to give you a referral?” I said “That may be best.” End of discussion, nothing else. I went to check out and asked for my records. Driving home, it just bothered me that this medical doctor thinks so little of his customers, his patients that he didn’t even try to discuss the issues with the length of time it takes meander through their practice, he’d just as soon let me go. I was going to leave anyway, this happens every time I go. However, as someone who worked since I was 15 until 66+, any customer or person I dealt with deserved enough respect, care to see if perhaps there is something I could do to fix a problem, real or perceived. Sorry for the lengthy story.
I don’t have health issues, but the Canadian wildfire smoke got unbelievably thick around 3 this afternoon … and it’s really getting to me. I feel bad for people with respiratory issues.
Wow, times sure change. Tuxes seem to be out of style for weddings. Registries asking for money to cover specific items on wedding registries are in. I guess I will have to adapt!
Update about my rant with my crazy neighbor who wants the doctor to give her a diagnosis of diabetes.
Yesterday we went on our walk and I calmly explained to her. “You know, if you have diabetes, your diet, your lifestyle and everything has to change.”
(I realized per your responses that you either have had the lousiest educational history, whereby you ignored whatever your teachers said, in public school and university settings, or you never heard what was going on!)
When I said you would have to severely curtail your drinking habits, you became upset with me!
You: “My friend has diabetes and he drinks all of the time!”
Me: “ then he’s not going to live for very long!”
Lifestyle changes are not a bad thing when it comes to your health and longevity. I tried explaining that till I was blue in the face and I’m just fed up now.
Me: “hops are used in beer.
Where do you think wine comes from? Didn’t you see the Lucy stomping grapes? Grapes are heavily concentrated in sugar.”
You: “well I’m not gonna stop drinking just because I have diabetes”
Me: “OK, that’s your choice, but if you DO have diabetes, your doctor and body isn’t gonna like that.”
“ I didn’t have anything to do with what the neighbor said about us being similar in age, and my looking extremely young.
I said that I have good genes but have made a conscientious effort to take good care of myself by trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and listening to my doctors.”
Edited to add: the reason the age thing came up is we ran into a neighbor (our kids went to school together) who was having his house re-roofed, and he asked me if I was working from home. I told him “no I’m retired” and then he asked my walking neighbor “are you also retired? and she said “yes we’re the same age” (I’m actually 2 1/2 years younger than she is) So the man said to me, “wow you look too young to be retired.” I thanked him but it was awkward.
It’s bad enough that you stopped at McDonald’s on your way, knowing we were headed to lunch as soon as you got here.
But then you both ordered full portions of lunch (at the not inexpensive restaurant) when half portions were available, and hardly ate any.
Sometimes when you come to me with a ‘concern,’ it’s really because you want me to deal with it for you. Like the time when my youngest kid was a toddler and wanted somebody to wipe the slimy booger off of her finger.
I’m not wiping the booger off for you this time. Clean up your own boogers!
Dear airlines and hotel chains: please stop sending me emails hawking your newest routes, lounges, private jet tours, and new luxury hotels! How about an old fashioned fare sale or a hotel discount? I’d unsubscribe from this nonsense but I don’t want to miss out on a good deal if it ever gets offered!
