Say it Here ‘Cause You Can’t Say it Directly—The Get it Off Your Chest Thread (NO REPLIES TO OTHER POSTS)

It makes me sad when I hear young people (thirty somethings) express pessimism about our future and their ability to effect change. Sweet neighbor who lives 2 doors down is working on getting citizenship in European country where her mother was born as a “just in case” and upstairs neighbor who is a tenure track academic thinks we are doomed as well. I have gotten used to hearing that from family members, but seeing it as a prevailing attitude is depressing for me.

This is the sort of thing we want addressed! :broken_heart:

Sadly, another shooting has happened.

Time for us to do what we usually do.

Step 1: Pray for the injured, while mourning the losses

Step 2: Have the same conversations and debates about gun control

Step 3: Watch as those conversations and debates go no further than social media

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 when the next shooting happens

For the most part, we sent our kids to school with no fear. The building felt trusted and safe.

How do parents today feel? How have we made it uncomfortable to send our children - and our grandchildren - to a building to grow and learn ?

How do we encourage our kids and our community members to become teachers? Who wants that kind of responsibility these days?

I sent my son to school without fear. Now he is a grown adult and an administrator in education . And I find myself with not excitement for a new year for him but fear of what the year might bring.

How to parents and educators go home and “be ok” after a day like today. How do they go through the drop off routine and classroom routine tomorrow…with shaking confidence.

What the h_ _ l is wrong with us?!

Back to school. Once again the strongest teacher on the team (me) gets a disproportionate work load and the “easy” students get shafted.

My husband has a friend who he’s known since before he knew me. I admire the longevity

Seriously though, he complicates everything! Everything involves more steps than I thought existed.

I’ve accepted that this friend exists somewhere on the spectrum. But boy, it’s frustrating!

Please, please, please rain!! Our well is almost totally dry. I HAD to run a load of laundry yesterday, and afterwards, the water just dribbled out of faucets. :frowning: We have three guests total arriving the next couple of days. DD will be here over a week. I’ve already told them they can’t do any laundry while they’re here.

Yesterday, the sky got dark and it began thundering. The power flickered off briefly so I lost a few minutes of work on my computer. But it didn’t rain!! Our neighbor said he was driving home, and the rain ended literally on the town line, about a mile from our house. It poured at my son’s place.

This has never happened in the 29+ years we’ve lived here.

Went to my late dad’s hometown today to take care of some paper work. This is a tiny place, way fewer than 5,000. We still own land there, and I have wanted to keep it forever. But today I met the guy who is farming it for us and ate at the fancy newish place downtown and I realized that my only real ties are this land and the cemetery where my grandparents and two uncles are buried. In a way, this was really sad, and in a way it was a relief. When the time comes, I think that I’ll be able to let the place go.

I’ve been praying for rain, doing a rain dance, letting the grass die as we haven’t had any measurable rain since before the 4th of July. We even had a microburst one night that took down a section of my fence but not a drop of rain with the wind.

Seems all I needed to do was wash my car! Washed it on Tues and we’ve had 3 evenings of rain! I have a dog water bowl on the back patio (for visitor dogs) and it was dry, but now there is about an inch in it.

Now it can stop as I have a ticket to the football game tomorrow night and don’t want to be soggy.

Apologizing in advance about any spelling or grammar mistakes I might make.

I’m not an English major nor an editor

Also I’m typing on an Apple device and autocorrect is a bear. I can’t fix everything. My intent is pure!

My husband has been debating keeping our AAA membership. Today he got a flat and they towed him. Well, worth the money for the convenience (they came quickly and the tow was free - no idea how much the new tire(s) will cost).

Sitting on a restaurant patio watching a crowd of youngsters get progressively stoned and bottles of booze carted in. The waiter said it was someone’s rehearsal dinner. If this was a rehearsal, I can’t imagine how much booze will be consumed during the actual “performance”’!!

If our account on your system indicates our groceries are ready, we assume OUR GROCERIES ARE READY, not that “the system indicates they’re ready when it’s your time, but they really aren’t.” That’s 45 minutes my husband won’t get back, and they are still not ready… WTH Harris Teeter.

D22 seems to have either the BF or a friend staying here almost every night. I don’t have a problem with that at all. Except, sometimes (okay, all the time), I just want to take a shower, air-dry my hair, put on a muu-muu, and walk around without a bra when I get home from work.

My heart breaks for the children and their teachers/staff. They will never forget what they saw, heard, and felt. My heart breaks for the families. My heart breaks for the community, the first responders, and the medical professionals. My heart breaks for our country and our world.
