So sorry, paper newspaper, but due to your constant delivery problems, inflexibility and significantly increased rates, its time, after 32 years, to say goodbye. And when you courtesy extend the subscription for a very short time due to the delivery problems, and its met with… more delivery problems… I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Off to pick up D from college in PA and then attend the wedding of H’s nephew. It will be a good weekend.
Finally made it to that big milestone in my “summer” project. One more week until the big deadline but the worst is finally over! No way you are talking me out of taking some time after that to go visit DS at college.
Umm, honey, we’re supposed to be in the car to leave for the airport in 13 minutes and you haven’t started packing… I know work is pressing, but ack!
Edited to: We were supposed to leave five minutes ago and you haven’t started packing…
Newspaper customer-no-service supervisor: You were supposed to call 2 hours ago. Not holding my breath, sigh…
So we made it to TSA pre check line and H had two pocketknives in his bag. He’s left to take the back to our car. We’ll get to the gate on time, but this stuff drives me bonkers.
I have never been happier to part with $126 in my entire life!
Such a know it all.
You can’t make this stuff up. Got to Philly airport and H said he was going to get a snack. I said, “They were supposed to start boarding us a few minutes ago.” “It will be fine,” he says. I insisted he take his backpack with him. Sure enough, they started boarding us not long after. I texted him and he said he was coming. Then an off duty flight attendant sat in his seat!! Yep, H missed the plane. He will get here at 7:30 and I have to go back to the airport to pick him up. Then we have to drive over an hour to pick up D. I am practicing deep breathing.
Winter is coming.
When I have this icky feeling in my stomach I know it’s time to think about going.
I flagged a post to fb since it was clearly fake news about the Las Vegas mass killing. I thought they were concerned about their role in disseminating fake news? No, they say it doesn’t violate their “community standards”.
So I write a post about that. You, friend of my MIL who commented “so true” - you’re the one that had posted the fake news story!
I love you, daughter, I do. But I’d like to actually wake up on my own some morning, especially on my DAYS OFF instead of your calling me! But I’m glad your college life is interesting and you like sharing, and I know that with the time difference by the time you call me you’ve been up for awhile. But I’m TIRED. :((
I have NO idea what happened in your head–NONE. But it was a super nice surprise. Thanks.
Funny story:
My mom turns 87 in a week. She lives on her own (with daily check ins from the 5 of us) and is fully functional. physically and mentally.
She told me yesterday that she had received one of those scam requests for money. Apparently, she had won $750,000 and needed only to send in $18 to put the wheels in motion and receive the money.
She sent in the $18.
When I heard that, you can imagine my reaction-- omg mom, what were you thinking? You know it’s a scam, right, That they’re targeting you because of your age… have you done this before?.. and so on.
But she interrupted me-- she knew fully well it was a scam. But she got so much fun out imagining what she would do with that money that it was worth the $18 in entertainment. She said it was the best $18 she had spent in ages.
And, nope, she won’t send them or anyone else money for something similar again.
I didn’t point out that she could have had the same fun for free, she was enjoying it so much.
I think I am the only Korean whose accent is mistaken as German, Portuguese, and Russian…
We had a wonderful time at the family wedding, although I will admit it was hard to hear about H’s brother’s perfect family - all three kids are excelling. And BIL had no idea that our oldest son dropped out of college 2 1/2 years ago! I don’t understand H’s family sometimes…
I am so tired of all of it. The expectations are mind-boggling, and I just can’t keep up. Oh, how I wish I could retire. Or be hired somewhere else … somewhere that values mature workers. I need to start leaving earlier so I can learn to code at night (instead of falling asleep as soon as I finish dinner). Maybe that will be my ticket out - it seems to be the magic bullet for everyone, if I can believe what I read.
That was the worst customer service, and yet i know that if I complain that kid will lose his job. The manager was awful, too. She didn’t apologize for the wait or inconvenience or anything. Would it have killed you to give me a free drink while I waited 30 minutes for you to balance that kid’s till to prove that I wasn’t trying to rip him off? Just an explanation would have been nice.
You are a lawyer, your husband is a physician, your daughter is a high school junior. And you tell me you are thinking you need to sell some “things” so your daughter will qualify for financial aid from FAFSA because you aren’t sure you daughter’s test scores will be high enough for need-based aid and you need to decrease your net worth.
Seriously. Your gross income is well over $300K per year; how can you be this ignorant about money and the college process?
