My home warranty is about to expire on the home we bought 30+ years ago that was built >60 years ago. Whatever shall we do?!?!
Received this via a text message this morning. Looks pretty authentic (especially the URL) and I can see how people might fall for this.
Luckily the grammatical errors give it away (aside from the fact that it’s from a regular phone number).
Although I’ve made a couple of changes: I posted this several months ago: W and I mantra is if we get ANY UNEXPECTED, UNSOLICITED call, text, email, knock on the door, whatever, especially requiring some immediate action, even a seemingly innocuous response (eg press “1” now), it’s a scam and gets ignored. If the call/contact (eg email) seems to comes from an entity we do business with, we may respond but only on the known contact info (eg phone, email, etc) we have.
I’m sorry to repeat a post, but as I keep reading above, I hopes it help someone. It’s a very scary world out there. Be safe.
Lordy. You can’t fix dumb.
My H laughed and said “you’d have done the same thing if it had been Jodie Foster or John Travolta!” (I adore them both and have repeatedly said for almost 30 years I would only leave him for one or both of them)
I’ve noticed recently people on the local Next Door app neighborhood group have been sharing scams they’ve encountered. The more the word gets around the better!
Ha, DH knows that if Matthew McConaughey showed up, I’d be gone in a flash.
He’s on my list too!
Only Tom Hanks will do.
Oh darn! Forgot Tom! (I guess I’m a loose woman )
I’m pretty sure Henry Cavill could talk me into a few things. I know Cary Grant would have been able to do that but worth every penny!
None of the above. I’ve worked and saved too hard to give my money away to some pretty face!
Please get back on topic! Thank you!
Got a text this morning supposedly from our city that if I don’t pay an “unpaid parking notice” that my vehicle was going to be disconnected. (Huh?) First off, I’m not the registered owner of any of our vehicles; second, the phone number was in Montreal while I’m in southern California. I rarely get junk texts. Hopefully no one falls for this.
Same. We never, ever continue an encounter. Hang up and call the business yourself.
I listened to my dad take a call, supposedly from his cell service provider. I would have hung up immediately. The red flag for me was when the guy said Dad could get a phone for free, except he would have to pay the 5% tax. Dad asked how much that would be, and the guy said, “$100.” Wow, expensive phone! Dad pressed him, saying $2000 seemed way too high for the phone. The guy kept trying to “explain,” and Dad FINALLY told him to send him something in writing. So the guy hung up. Seemed pretty fishy to me. It worries me that Dad took a call like that.
I hadn’t checked my pending/posted charges on our main card since the holidays. Tonight I found a small charge, <$1, from p.a.p. pito - dot - org. (Don’t know if I needed to do that instead of just writing it out.) Search results indicated it’s a scam, testing to see if the card is legit. Fortunately, there weren’t any subsequent fraudulent charges. The card issuer closed the card and will send a replacement. Unfortunately, even with their “expedited” shipping, it won’t arrive until next Thursday. Meanwhile, we have to cancel several auto-payments and delete it from a few store sites. Guess I’ll be paying cash for anything needed in the next week.
LOL. From your other posts, I know that your Dad is NOT the type of person who is unable to do a bit of sales tax math. The scammers were counting on a less educated, less sharp senior.
I just got one identical to that!
