Yes, I can change password and/or delete the account, and will likely do so in the future. However, for now, I plan to observe. I may take steps that have a more lasting impact on scammer and/or contact potential victims, after getting more information. I do not have concerns about a significant personal risk, and there is no personal or financial information linked to the account.
Lately I’ve been getting emails purporting to be from a local bank where I do have an account about “suspicious transaction,” and asking me to click a button. So far I’ve always checked email if sender and it’s NOT from bank so I’ve deleted but they just imbed a bad link in bank’s normal webpage & add their text.
I would take it down now. By doing so, you may prevent someone else from being scammed.
Can you elaborate? Is that a joke about the recent pervasive scam, or a message you received, or ???
It’s a joke.
Joke!
If I was Data, I’d share with the local police in charge of internet security. Perhaps they can trace the sender.
Currently, I have a patient and daughter that I think are being scammed by a foreigner, selling crypto. The man is so charming, I’m not allowed to say anything questionable about him.
I reported one internet scammer to the local police and they said they couldn’t do anything. ![]()
Who knows with the current admin–not meant to be political; I just don’t know what’s going on with the agency now–but in the past it was the FCC that was the right agency to contact for phone or internet scams.
Just got a spam text from Temu offering me a job. Deleted and reported as junk.
There has been an uptick in scam offers to professionals to present at allegedly prestigious industry conferences or to be featured in a prestigious magazine or something like that. The latter offer is allegedly paid, all is needed is a bank account number to transfer the honorarium to. And SSN, for tax purposes.
Is that all? Sign me up! ![]()
H is getting texts to pay tolls. My phone number and email is attached to WA Good to go account. I checked it- no tolls due.
I once got letters of tolls from CA but it was because another vehicle had a letter O and I had a number 0 and they look the same to their toll booth machine. I had to change my plate.
Wow, another one I almost fell for.
This morning, I got an encrypted email from the staff at my son’s housing. A security code was sent in a second email, and I used it to open the message. It was legitimate.
Then a little while ago, I got another encrypted email from a NAMI Maine staff member. I thought, “Oh, great, I guess this is a thing now, what a pain.” I was eating lunch, so I decided to wait until I got back in the office to open it. In the meantime, the staff member sent out an email saying she had been hacked and the encrypted email wasn’t legitimate! Ugh. So now I will wonder every time I get one if it’s real or not…
I guess the prudent thing to do is wait and maybe text the Nami member to be sure you were sent something?
Wow. Scary.
Just got one of these phish emails.
I’ve had 5 texts in two days offering me high paying jobs based on my skills and experience. I just have to contact the recruiter over What’s App. LOL I’m hoping it’s just aggressive scamming and not that my number has been added to more scam lists. I do Delete and Report Junk but I doubt that does anything.
I’m doubtful that reporting does anything, too, but it just makes me feel the same way like I feel after swatting a pesky fly.
I know there will be more flies… yet still feel some accomplishment. ![]()
