SCEA - Class of 2011

ooh thats cool i go to breck…small private school…do you think being from the midwest is an advantage in applying to stanford?

maybe. haha breck :stuck_out_tongue: Had a buddy that went there a long long while ago. Should hang out a bit if all else fails. Do some celebrating/comforting after The Decision.

Midwest may have some benefit, though how much I’m uncertain.

i would think it helped just because they get so many people from california every year. hmm… do you think they favor californians, or do they give advantages to people from underrepresented regions such as the midwestern and southern states?

what was his name? i bet i know him. i met this kid at a quiz bowl meet saturday who was applying scea to stanford and i wondered if it was you haha, but i guess it isn’t. i don’t think stanford gets a lot of apps from mn though.

some people say its an advantage…but i doubt it really makes a huge difference. and yeah i don’t really get why they accept so many californians! i would like to see the accept rates by region, it would be interesting. like which ones are most qualified? i dont know if being from california is a disadvantage or an advantage or neither…does anyone have any idea?

while i was at a jsa convention this summer, i met two kids from mn who were planning on applying to stanford lol. its probably a mn thing!

california gives a massive amounts of apps, that much I’m sure of. Though i do get turned off by what percentage Stanford’s class comes from instate. :(

The kid i knew from breck is now in grad school, or just about to leave. So i’m pretty sure you don’t know him. Just trying to fill the conversation with something that was possibly related to you.

I’m 99.9% sure that non-Californians get an advantage, hahah… Stanford wants to be represented and whatnot, I guess.

so there is just an overwhelming number of californian applicants? interesting

not with the new dean. i heard he wants more diversity. what shocked me is finding 3 people from vegas on CC. lol.

OH MY GOD. Just looking at the Wiki…ther’s a RIDICULOUS # of people who are Asian/Indian! You know, collectively, we Asians are all just screwing ourselves over together. We need to have a system where only certain Asians apply to certain schools–and thus it helps everyone out! Also surprised at the number of Hum Bio majors.

yeah its scary. i have a feeling there will be a higher percentage of rejection for CC this year.

Are you saying we should hold an “Asian elimination challenge” in the colosseum or something? Personally I find that really enticing. Sadly, all us Asians without kung fu fighting ability would lose out.

yeah i swear i am one of like 3 white girls on this site. i shouldn’t even be on this anyways i have so much homework!

I gave up on my homework hours ago… some Asian I am, hahah.

I would so win in an AEC (Asian Elimination Challenge)… I have stilettos, watch out.

I’m ditching school tomorrow. Too sick. :D

Okay, so where is the AEC going down? Stilettos, antithesis? Pfft. Box cutters are where its at.

Get better Pyleela. Unless you want to stay sick till fri. Which would still suck.

Thanks! :)

I have to get better b/c of a calc test on Tues. My teacher gives out 0/120 if you miss a test and you can’t make them up. GRR…

I should be working on an essay that I still have to turn in tomorrow…

about ethnicity…i am one of those biracial applicants. with the option to check more than one box, i wonder how stanford represents the ethnicity of people who check black/hispanic, hispanic/asian, etc in their statistical data (collegeboard and other websites). do they simply pick the ethnicity they wish to represent, or do they add half a percentage to each ethnic group? Hmm…

i get a PS3 if i get in, and what’s better?? I get in!!! If i dont get in, I hate my life! lolol. and being indian isnt exatly helping!! Hopefully, distinct essays and extracurriculars can make up for this factor.
