<p>The program depends on federal grants through the StarTalk program (Strategic Language Initiatives). The organization (AFS in this case) applies in January/February and finds out if the grant has been allocated in March. Therefore, AFS doesn’t even post anything about the scholarship until about March.</p>
<p>Look at the info from the year before and be prepared to quickly fill out the scholarship application if you are interested. Unless something changes drastically, the grant will be approved. AFS has been doing a wonderful job and has gotten more money every year – 12 kids sent the first year, 24 the second year and 30 this past summer. I have no idea how many they will send next summer.</p>
