@butterbear09 lol I got rejected from Youngarts too but then got a gold medal ?
@FlameAlchemist yes, Scholastic tends to be VERY subjective, if you check the online galleries, most of the national medalists created works that are politically/culturally based. Assuming youāre in 10th grade based on your post, you still have some time.
@MPC4002 bruh exactly, these competitions are soooo subjective lol
@resonanthought To clarify, Iām currently in 11th grade, but I mentioned 9th because I won a gold and silver medal that year (havenāt won anything since, ?)āsorry for the confusion. I agree that Scholastics is very subjective, but I also think the people who win it tend to be quite good. Iāve read some very fine pieces in the online galleries. Anyone who wins nationally should be proud. On the other hand, it means nothing if you lose. Itās just a contest, and people tend to exaggerate how important it is in the long-term. No one should get discouraged by a high school contest, of all things!
Looks like they canceled the national exhibition and we arenāt supposed to ship our artworks. This makes me more hesitant to buy plane tickets for the ceremony ?
Hey everyone! Because of the corona outbreak, Iām stuck at home (as Iām sure lots of you are) and I decided that I want to start an online literary magazine. However, I think it may be easier with a few equally passionate high school writers, so if youāre interested, PM me and we can get started!
@scertuik thatās such a great idea! I donāt have 15 posts yet, so could you PM me instead? thanks
does anyone know when the 2020 winning pieces will be available on the site to view?
@scertuik Same here! Iād like to get involved, so itād be great if you PM me!
Iād also like to get involved! If you can, pls PM me!
^^ me too! @scertuik could you please PM me? sounds super cool!

GUYS! National Ceremony is canceled, and itās now virtual? How do you feel about this? I was really looking forward to NYC but at this point, it is what it isā¦
Iām bummed but not surprised. I virtual ceremony low-key sounds kinda lame but I guess itās better than nothing.
this is super late and unnecessary but i just wanted to share
this was my first time ever submitting to scholastic, and i hadnāt written anything seriously in the past ~2 years before i started on my submissions. i had absolutely no expectations, and mainly applied to a. force myself to sit down and write smth and b. hopefully meet my friend (whoād won a national gold medal the previous year) at the nyc ceremony - a pipe dream, but one i held on to! so you can imagine my complete bewilderment and surprise when i ended up with 2 gold keys, 2 hms, 1 silver key, and somehow a national gold medal in science fiction! aah! iām so sad that the nyc ceremony is canceled, i was really excited to meet new people, but i suppose thereās always next year. congrats to all of you guys!
also @scertuik pm me pls abt the litmag!
Does anyone know when our medals will be mailed to us? Congrats everyone!!
@hihelloo Apparently, our medals will be mailed to us this summer, but we will have to confirm our addresses by May 8th so they can be sent to us.
@momentsilence hello, and congrats!! Iām kind of on the same boat as you when you mentioned forcing yourself to write - I submitted one short story to Scholastic, prepared for rejection, but then earned a gold key and gold medal! I just feel really bad for the seniors, at least I have 5 years left to submit. Iām sure your story was amazing, congratulations again!
Hi, has anyone heard back from the Scholastic Summer Scholarships Program? I think Scholastic said we would hear back by next Friday, but it might be delayed because of the virusā¦
