If you are positive about enrolling it might be fun to start a facebook page for the Class of 2018. There is one for parents of the new class “USC Parents Class of 2018”.

@sfxchris I understand those feels man… I live in So Cal so I figured I would know today and since I havent…
Hope its good news for all of you

Didn’t receive anything yet…
I’m an international, however, so I’m still hopeful!!

Daughter just got a small envelope. No worries though, she was accepted to UCLA Film. Time for us to start getting the red out!!
Good luck to all the new Trojans.

Just got into my second choice at SCA - Media Practice. A little sad and little happy - since I wanted production. Does anyone know more about this major, there is very little out there since it is relatively new.

In Virginia. Son just got into first choice major, Interactive Entertainment!

S14 got the small white envelope today. Good luck to the rest of you!

Understated, don’t despair. Production takes only a few handful of students. It’s one of the hardest of the departments to get into. But you can still get a lot of experience by crewing on films, taking production classes, working on Trojan Vision, etc. The school is not a functional silo. If it’s any consolation, I’ve met a number of talented students who didn’t get any of the options. So you’ve got a head start.

thanks! @artsandletters I have finally come to terms with it and MAP seems to encompass all forms of media storytelling so it seems like its still a good fit

@Understated. You will love the school and the department! Fight on!

My daughter was not accepted to SCA, but was admitted to her second choice major which was SDA. She is still super excited, as USC has always been one of her top two choices. She made the cut in Film at NYU, Emerson, and LMU, and got offered her second choice at Chapman/ Dodge, so it’s going to be a hard choice and will depend on FA. She was rejected at UCLA, Columbia, Stanford, and Wesleyan (all were reaches). Congratulations to those admitted to SCA and any other film schools-- it is a huge accomplishment!

My daughter was accepted into her first choice of Interactive Entertainment. Still waiting to see on scholarship/FA info. At this point it is between this and Otis.

Accepted to the Screenwriting BFA! Choosing between USC and doing a BA program at another school. USC was my dream school for a long time, but now that I’ve been through the whole process of applications and have a few great options, I’m not so set on it. But it feels like too amazing of an opprtunity to pass up…

So if I got a rejection letter from the University this means I am not admitted to SCA correct?

And also if there are any Film and TV Production majors that got in would you mind posting your videos cause I want to see what got in and stuff. I thought my film was pretty solid and I’m Valedictorian of my class so at this point I’m crushed… It was my dream to attend USC… : . (

@WDriskolM - yes, unfortunately a rejection letter indicates that you were not admitted to USC.

@WDriskoIM So sorry about the rejection, but remember the videos weren’t everything. A lot goes into the application, and SCA is less concerned about Valedictorian status than the university itself.

@WDriskolM - You can go on Youtube - a lot of students post their videos there. But it won’t tell you much because it’s only part of the puzzle.

It is possible to be admitted to USC without being admitted to SCA. Some students are taken as “undecided.” So your focus on why SCA didn’t take you may be misplaced. You have to impress USC first before SCA can advocate for you. USC got a lot of applications from students at the top of their class. That is one of the biggest hurdles.

With close to 51,000 applications USC took just over 17% if I remember correctly. An SCA takes only 4% or less of its applicant pool with no waiting list. Only 25 in film production. So chances are you did everything right for SCA. But the school is trying to build a class. So it’s as much about the film as it is about other aspects of the application that show focus and passion - including outside interests.

Don’t sweat it. You’re not alone in terms of outcome. A lot of talented students are hearing the same news. You could try appealing the USC decision - but there is no option for appealing SCA even if you get into USC.

Did you get another school you loved? Perhaps you can transfer later?

I got into USC SCA for Writing for Film and TV. I’m still literally in shock. If anyone is in the SCA, or in the screenwriting major, and can answer a few questions for me I’d love it. Right now I am deciding between USC, Emerson and NYU (not as much). It really comes down to USC and Emerson I think on FA because I think USC will give me good money but I got into Emerson’s Honors College which means half off tuition. Ugh still literally in a state of shock.

For any other hopefuls applying in the future years, don’t listen to what ANYONE says about it being impossible to get into and not worth trying. If I can get in, I am convinced that everyone has at least a shot.

@Ganondorf901 Congrats, that is amazing!!! You’re the third person here on CC who got into screenwriting this year! That’s also my first choice, but I didn’t receive anything yet, & I don’t want to check online
. I also got into Emerson Honors College with Writing for Film & TV, hopefully we’ll be classmates somewhere next year!!
