School Recommendations

I don’t believe that SUNY Purchase offers MT. When S17 was applying for tech programs, he took Purchase off the list because he wanted to be in a program that would allow him to work with musicals, as well as straight plays, and Purchase wasn’t that school. He is at SUNY Fredonia, which might be too far from Connecticut. It’s about 8 hours from me and I am in NYS. Fredonia does have an MT BFA program and I have seen some extremely talented performers in the plays I have seen. Also, Acting and non-theater majors are also allowed to audition for all productions and my son says non-majors do get cast on occasion.

There’s also LIU-Post, which has a BFA MT, as well as the Molloy-CAP 21 program and Adelphi, all of which are near Hofstra, but in much nicer neighborhoods. Hofstra is in a horrible location. I live in the area and wouldn’t let any of my kids apply there.

In NYC, there’s Marymount Manhattan, but I am not sure what type of programs it has.

You also need to take your finances into account. Since you are in Ct., you should see if any of the state schools offers a program you would be interested in.

Good luck.
