School with most MIT acceptances?

Blair was mentioned on the front page, near the bottom. From what I hear, 15 or so got in this year. It apparently fluctuates from year to year. For my year (c/o 2012), I think 6-8 got in, but only 4 attended.

Another factor is if a school is in area with a bunch of tech companies. The kids of scientists/engineers tend to excel academically, too. I don’t know where exactly Torrey Pines is in California, but this phenonema may explain their success rate in MIT admissions.

For instance, a public school in silicon valley might have a lot of acceptances. A public school next to a university campus might have a lot of top-flight students because the children of professors may go there.

^Hmm, maybe that’s why Cincinnati did rather well in comparison to the rest of Ohio. P&G is like the biggest employer here, and they have an ishton of engineers. (I’m one of those kids on an engineer!)

Somewhat related whine: So why is the “local” MIT meetup in Dayton?!?!?!

Lynbrook is a public hs in West San Jose.

^ Lynbrook is practically on the border with Cupertino, and it draws students from that area. Think Apple Computer and scores of other high-tech companies. But it is not a magnet school.

TJHSST only has 9 according to the MIT guestbook.

This is also the most from any school in the guestbook.

Torrey and Lynbrook both have 4.

Lots of people haven’t signed the guestbook though…

Though if we assume that the chance of any given MIT admit signing the guestbook is the same, we can make some guesses on relative numbers. Tiny sample size though.

Er, if you’re talking about Torrey Pines, we have 8.

Yup, TP is in San Diego, big center for biotech companies.

^^When the parent strain are scientists, the F1 will be fierce.

I was just telling you guys what the guestbook says. There are obvious flaws with people signing it.

Tell everyone you know to sign it!!! That way we can all better know each other :]

I wish everyone would sign it. I mean, the link is somewhere in the FB group, and it takes like 5 seconds.

Just going by my friends, I would say the perceived order is: TJ, Blair, Lynbrook.

I had no idea that there’s so many from Torrey Pines (I even visited that high school! : P My mom initially wanted me to go to high school there rather than in Taiwan to boost my chances of getting into HYPSMC lulz)

^ Oh, and throw in Monte Vista / Monta Vista (I always get confused by the names since they’re one letter off -__- I’m still not sure which one it is but yeah, one of them sends a few people to MIT.)

Lynbrook, Monta Vista, Homestead, and Cupertino High School are all in the same school district.

On a side note, the students at Cupertino High School won the Dell competition this year (prize = $100,000) for “best idea for senior prom.” They ran a huge campaign proposing to donate their proceeds to a school in Africa, and students in the neighboring schools worked to support the effort. Homestead dropped out and donated all of its votes to Cupertino…

Anyway, these are large public schools – not magnet schools – in the Fremont Union High School District. They draw from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds (much less so Monta Vista, more so a school like Homestead or Cupertino), but many of the families work in local technology companies. For example, Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak both graduated from Homestead, and Wozniak supported the FIRST Robotics team there for a number of years. He may still support it, for all I know. These school are interesting because they offer “open access” honors and AP courses, in which any student can enroll.

I go to a public high school, about 500 students in a class. MIT acceptances: 0. (I think.)

~360 kids per class at my public high school and I am first to even apply (let alone get accepted)

We have 5/~120

In the past two years, my school has had eleven apply with three acceptances. That is actually the most success that it has had at any upper-tier institution.

My cousin is a senior at TJHSST, he told me that MIT accepted 22 students from TJ this year. last year was 24.
