Schools like MIT...

Stanford is one of a kind. There are no Stanford-esque schools.

@WanToBeABrownie: Could you make your own thread for this? Your needs are totally different from mine and they don’t belong here. But while I’m on the subject, look at Purdue. It has great engineering programs but loose admissions standards.

i am sorry for high jacking your thread. i will make my own thread . by the way look in to reeds college and bucknell . i think it may fit your requirements .

thanks and sorry agn.

Case Western Reserve University

I strongly recommend the University of Miami for engineering. Is it one of the top ones you think of, no. But here is a few reasons why it is worth it.l

A) if you dont know what type of engineering you want to do, it isn’t limited. I am an electrical engineer with a concentration in audio… I could only find audio programs in maybe 5 other schools in the nation. The 5 depts are biomed, mechanical/aerospace, electrical/computer, industrial/environmental, and chemical. All are excellent, and it is very easy to switch from one to another, even as late as after sophomore year.

B) if offers a 5-yr master program. What’s better than getting the “professional” degree? not having to pay for one of your additional two years!

C) the school is amazing. Top 50, Division I sports, great culture, diversity, etc. Plus, it isn’t impossible to get in to

D) amazing financial aid, both need and merit based. It makes this private college much more affordable.

E) most students do some sort of research or internship. In addition, all engineering students are required to do a senior project that is multi-disciplinary.

I know it hasn’t been mentioned on this thread, but I do highly recommend you look into the program. It is well worth it, even if it isn’t THE engineering school in the nation.

I think Carnegie Mellon is probably the most MIT-like school in the country. Other than Caltech, of course.

This has been a great thread.

Thanks for all the input, I’m looking into top Engineering schools right now myself (MIT, Hulman, Harvey Mudd, RPI, Caltech). Mostly smaller d3 schools where I could play baseball.

I learn so much just following people on this board, haha.
