Would a white, first generation student majoring in Russian/Russian studies qualify as such?

You would have to show a history with this (not just ethnicity). Kids think that they can select some odd major and that will shoo them into a top school. However, if you don’t have the history then a school won’t take it seriously. They’ll think that once you’re in, you’ll change your major.
@mom2collegekids That sucks about the first generation, I always thought it was pretty helpful because it seems to be considered a “hook” on CC, at least I know now. Russia is a genuine passion of mine, and I know for sure one teacher is going to write about that in his recs, because I always talk about it to him, however I am unsure what to do for ECs. I do MUN, and I was going to start a European club, but I’m worried colleges will view that as racist. I read a lot about Russia everyday, I just am unsure how to make this passion appear on paper. Any suggestions?
