great thread – and FYI, that Hartt program / partnership with Hartford Stage / Goodspeed is really cool.

Coastal Carolina has a partnership with the Atlantic Stage, an Equity theatre that shares its production space with the university.

Shenandoah has a resident Summer Stock program:

BU and the Huntington are parting ways.

Rockford University has the professional Artists’ Ensemble which has residence in the theatre on campus.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has the McLeod Summer Playhouse - they do professional theatre June - August.

Now that it’s a full year later - I have a better idea of the relationship of BW with the Cleveland Theater scene (which is extremely strong.)

Beck Center for the Arts - They have a tight collaboration with the Beck Center - with Vicky directing the February show, which is cast by almost entirely BW students. (Older roles are sometimes other area professionals) The Beck Center is also known for casting BW students in their summer productions (My D was one.) Unfortunately, the Beck doesn’t offer EMC points - although they do cast some equity professionals, and the actors in the summer production were paid (not much - but paid).

Playhouse Square - They have a collaboration with Playhouse Square - with Vicky directing a show in late April in The Helen - a lab theater in Playhouse Square - cast 100% with BW students. - No EMC points for this production.

Idaho Shakespeare Festival/Great Lakes Theater - Vicky directs a show each summer at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, and generally several BW students are cast. That show then transfers from it’s summer run in Idaho to a fall run at the Great Lakes Theater in Playhouse Square - and the BW students continue in their roles. EMC points are definitely earned in these experiences.

Cain Park - Cain Park casts an early summer production, and BW students are generally successful in being cast there. (Several of D’s friends were in this summer’s show) Cain Park earns EMC points.

Other - Scott Plate often directs a show in the Playhouse Square district - and often casts some BW students - I’m fairly certain those opportunities do earn EMC points.

Those are the strongest regional theater ties I’m aware of with BW - but there are other regional theaters in the area, that I’m sure cast BW students. The ones above are just the ones that I know the students become involved with at the encouragement and support of the faculty. BW also has some strong ties to several summer stock theaters, that audition on campus and cast a few BW students in their summer seasons each year.

CCPA does not have a formal relationship with a theater, but it has very strong connections with lots of them, via faculty, guest directors and internships. There are also just a ton of theaters in Chicago, more than 100 I think I read somewhere, from the big institutional ones like the Goodman and Chicago Shakespeare all the way down to the barest-bones kind of storefront theaters.

I would call the BW productions at the Beck and the Helen school productions even though they take place in outside venues. For ME (and I could be wrong) if only BW students are able to audition for age appropriate roles, then it is a school production rather an affiliation with a professional theater. That said, BW does have strong connection to theater in Cleveland and students do well in the local casting pool

Dobama Theatre is now an equity house (just east of Cleveland). BW students are frequently cast and, I believe, can now earn EMC points.

As people start making final decisions this information may be of interest. Also, if you get any updated information during admitted student visits it will be great if you can share it!

Hartt has a formal relationship with both Hartford Stage (student are routinely cast in shows) and Goodspeed Opera House (MT students have a winter break experience workshopping musicals from the New Musical series their senior year). They also run a summer stock theater in Cape Cod (Monomoy Theater). There is also a more informal relationship with TheaterWorks in Hartford and students have also performed at events with the Hartford Symphony.

OU (the University of Oklahoma) also does shows in collaboration with CityRep where students are able to earn EMC points. Just this February, several recent OU graduates (& I believe current students as well) all received their Equity cards after their Avenue Q run at the Oklahoma City Civic Center where an OU faculty member directed the show. My friend’s son was a lead. He was put up in a B&B and paid, of course. What a difference going from paying tuition a few months prior, to being paid! I drove up to see him in his first Equity role. He was fantastic. It was such a great show! Also, OU students are always hired by Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City, where they can also earn EMC points doing Summer Stock work. There are also numerous other theaters in which students participate in productions including Reduxion, Poteet, Guthrie, Shakespeare in the Park and others. Several of the OU faculty members direct Summer Stock out of state and often cast OU students.
