<p>Oh many majors at Harvey Mudd are very hard, from what I heard from graduates of it whom I know personally. </p>
<p>As for the poster who commented on Caltech requiring that you sort of find and demonstrate your passion in MSE early, well part of the thing is Caltech isn’t necessarily claiming that people who’re a good fit for them are the best MSE students out there. There is talent in several top institutions of learning. I think a very specific kind of student, one who generally has a pretty narrow focus into MSE often enjoys Caltech, and it’s a very specific type of atmosphere. This is what Lizzard seems to state in what I’d call the key characterization of Caltech:</p>

<p>Basically, they don’t want to take chances and want to use their best judgement as to who’d be a right fit for them.</p>
