I haven’t tried meth personally but I’m familiar with similar phenethylamine agonists that I work with in the lab on a daily basis. Endorphins give you a better rush. Meth is for unathletic losers who don’t know how to do cardio.

Also the only reason why methamphetamine is so potent is because it’s very soluble in the blood-brain barrier (astrocytes love that ****) and it lasts longer against enzymatic breakdown (monoamine oxidase) than amphetamine, the most abused study drug used by students.

Solution: stay the whole party and dance longer. It’s actually very easy to get addicted to like hours of partying this way… while sober and not having taken any external drugs.

Beta-endorphin isn’t very soluble in the BBB but who cares? Beta-endorphin is remarkably more potent than any opiate on a per-molecule basis. Your brain is also producing them endogeneously in addition to your pituitary gland releasing them into the bloodstream.

Though if you ever take meth, do it with like 5000% daily dose of vitamin C. You’ll prevent most of your brain damage that way. Still no reason to do it since beta-endorphins are superior.

i was joking about meth, that stuff will kill you faster than being on the frontlines if the iron curtain fell

also lol, running is nice and all and yeah it does give you that “runner’s high” but that stuff is nowhere near as potent as alcohol. The dumb things I do/say when I get tipsy aren’t done or said when I come back from a run.

@punpun probably but I’ve got nothin better to do at 1AM on a Sunday night/Monday morning. Most of us will still stick to our ways, this guy will stick to his, whatever.

Oi I never said it didn’t make for good television never heard of the show actually, I’ll check it out though. I’m tearing through all the earlier seasons of 24 right now though, I’ll save it for later.

^LOL. I know you didn’t say that, but I felt the need to butt in, since this paper is boring me. You should really check it out, though–I highly recommend it. You should probably just wait until this season is over, so you can save yourself from the feeling of suspense that results from wondering what’s going to happen in next week’s episode.

the main mechanism of the neurotoxicity of meth is the oxidative stress of all the excess dopamine. The break down of dopamine uses a LOT of ascorbic acid (aka vitamin C) in order to use dioxygen to hydroxylate the benzyl position (to make norepinephrine) – the ascorbic acid is supposed to reduce the other oxygen.

and occasionally, the enzyme messes up – esp. when the cell runs out of vitamin C / ascorbic acid and then the other oxygen radical attacks water to form hydrogen peroxide or hydroxyl radicals instead, which wreak havoc in the cell if you have no antioxidants. (When you deal with radicals, you deal with chain reactions so a single radical can damage thousands of molecules in a cell before it is finally “quenched”.)

Beta-endorphin rushes are so much better because they are neuropeptide-induced rather than using a monoamine agonist. You can still have the dopamine rush but without the neurotoxicity. But still, if you ever take any monoamine, don’t forget to pop 2000 mg of Vitamin C as well.

As someone who drank to get drunk many times in his life (and usually never overshot the “euphoric peak”) I say you are a liar. Endorphin highs totally beat alcohol.

Also, I’m talking about breakdancing. Do it in a party in a wild, celebratory atmosphere and the social conditions promote the secretion of endorphins with a magnitude of 10^2 to 10^3. OMG. Such a rush. Physical + social exertion ==> synergistic, mutually-reinforcing secretions. It’s very powerful.

Runner’s high is the basic mechanism but the high you get from running is only a taste of it – but it helps you pregame so you walk into the party already confident. Continued partying helps you heighten and sustain it.

I love KFC. Actually I love exercising and then pigging out afterwards. I eat like 4000 kcal/day and don’t gain weight, thanks to endorphin highs.

Well of course, but I ran through the first two seasons in less than two days because I was that hooked. Now I’m stuck wondering what will happen :(

Nice… I just tore through half of 24 Season 2 in about a day the first seasons are excellent so far. Seasons 5 and 6 were alright, Season 7 was fun but outlandish, and I haven’t seen Season 8 yet.

I also watched every single episode of The Office through Season 5, and I’ve seen most of the eps from Season 6. My god what a hilarious show, I can’t believe I had gone that long without it.
