Seattle Scavenger Hunt

Actually, driving around the city and finding (even paid but reasonably priced parking has become a major PITA. Taking the bus is a valuable life skill! :)

One very important driving skill in the city is being able to stop at a red light while going uphill and start driving without letting the car roll backwards (on some very steep hills, it means having both feet on the pedals - slowly releasing the brake pedal while slowly pushing on the gas  ).

My mom made us drive up the hill at 1st and Virginia in a stick before we were allowed to get our licenses!

Kid is great with bus - that was the transportation until last month

Saint fan, good for her! My dad taught me hills in his Chevy truck on the Eastside. I really prayed getting to church!

Stone Gardens in Bellevue is arguably the best bouldering gym in the country. I initially took it for granted until I started going to gyms all over the place that were supposed to be good. Now I don’t even bother going elsewhere, because it’s a waste of time.

So my money will be well spent, you’re telling me? He doesn’t get the membership until apps are in, though!

Very well spent, if he uses it. My kiddo did it for a month and a half in the summer, every other day. Went from looking quite skinny to kind of buff, which surprised me so much I decided to do it. Too busy to do much climbing lately, though. Your money will be extremely well spent.

I learned how to drive a stick in Kirkland on an old VW bug, that had a bad clutch.
Although I mostly learned from a friend teaching me how to drive in his Impala. it had the shifter on the column.

Youngest really likes climbing, she even has her own gear. She didnt participate in the Girls Rock camps, but she did attend camp at Stone Gardens ( in Seattle)when in middle school and has gone climbing in college and where she lives now in the Cascades.
Ołder Ds roommate ( before she got married) taught climbing at Stone Gardens, and climbs regularly as well. It’s a great sport to teach concentration and planning, and many people who are on the spectrum consider it theraputic…

My best friend in massage school was a climber. She had amazing musculature. You could see all the attachments & insertions!
:)

If you want to see women with well defined muscles, you see them climbing. Sometimes I am just amazed by their strength, and feel if I could ever do it regularly, it would be awesome. But you lose it quickly. Have never been to Seattle Stone Gardens, but I’d heard that Bellevue is much better. If you ever go to Bellevue, you’ll know me. I’m the oldest person on the wall. It’s definitely a younger crowd, but there are a few people over 25 every now and then.

So much for Paseo :'(

http://www.komonews.com/seattlerefined/eat-drink/Paseo-sandwich-shop-closes-out-of-the-blue-282318431.html</a></p>

The food was good… Apparently, the owners - not so much.

Personally, we went to Little Coney or the Lockspot more than Paseos, I don’t really eat pork often, so perhaps I missed their best sandwich.
But it is mysterious.

The story . . .

http://www.komonews.com/seattlerefined/eat-drink/Kickstarter-aims-to-raise-250000-to-save-Paseo-282598991.html</a></p>

Gasworks Park?

There used to be a breakfast place, something with “Dog” in the name, I think. Great hash-slingin’ spot. It was north, maybe Green Lake area.

The Doghouse was downtown/Denny.
It’s been closed for 20 years.
<a href=“Seattle Post-Intelligencer”>Seattle Post-Intelligencer;

Maybe you are thinking of Beth’s Cafe?
It’s by Greenlake.
It’s quite divey though.

Both of those names are ringing a bell, ek, thanks for remembering them. I think I went to both of them at one time or other. It’s been 30 years. I think Beth’s was the one I was thinking of. It was divey, but good. Though not by any means light and healthy. :)

Ah, sweet bird of youth. Seattle has changed so much since my days in short pants. Madison Valley, Madison Park, Columbia City? Wouldn’t know where I was if you dropped me blindfolded in any of the new haute cuisine spots situated in those neighborhoods.
