Second Ebola patient

Well . . . he could always close the bridge ;)

and with that, “The sun . . . has gone . . . to bed and so must I . . . good night”

Bay, it doesn’t matter if Ms. Hickox treated African ebola patients in her underwear. The fact which you seem unable to assimilate is that she is negative for the virus and asymptomatic, and therefore presents exactly zero threat.

But your posts are also becoming tiresome. And like my fellow Seahawks fan, it’s my bedtime.

Jeez, it’s not my decision that Ms Hicox be quarantined so don’t blame me if you don’t think she qualifies. I didn’t say she wasn’t negative, nice try though! LOL

It’s your decision to defend the stupidity, however.

Seems unnecessary for people to be insulting to each other just because they have a difference of opinion.

Though my opinion is pure brilliance, representing my vast knowledge and superior critical thinking skills. And yours is just plain stupid.

I said the quarantine was stupid. Because it’s stupid to quarantine someone who does not pose any risk.

Just curious if any of you who are posting on here have credentials in chemistry, immunology, infectious disease, public health or other fields that would be relevant? Because anyone can opine about anything, you know.

I haven’t been posting here much, but I have been reading along. While I have no credentials, Frugal Doc and NRDSB do. That’s why, although I initially was inclined to support strict security measures like flight bans and quarantines, I’ve changed my mind after reading their posts.

Okay, I edited my post. It sounded like bragging, really - but those are my credentials. 20 years in biotech have to do it.

(dagnabbit autocorrect)

Personally, I’m glad that this attorney has stepped up to represent this nurse. [I had mentioned ACLU upthread & this guy does have a connection.] It’s upsetting to me that it was necessary to take legal action, but she really is NOT being treated with any dignity and there has been no justification for her having no running water, shower facilities or her clothing. It’s quite outrageous and does indeed sound like the politicians care more about getting their minutes of fame than following the science, being rational and CALMING the people instead of sparking and fanning hysteria.

I am not surprised at all about Bay’s response in regards to this situation.

If the nurse being held does indeed live in Maine, it seems like any public threat to New Jerseyans (real or imagined) would be alleviated by just giving her an official escort back home where she can reside under home monitoring in her own state. Then, even if she did develop symptoms it would no longer be the problem of New Jersey’s health care system risking further transmission or need for quarantine. In fact, it seems like a wasteful public expenditure to keep her there.

I’m not an expert in anything, but I do have experience in ICU, education in communicable diseases, and insight into how medical care is delivered in a US hospital.

I would put frugal doctor’s credentials and BB’s vast experience over mine, though.

It’s frustrating that remarks on the part of Christie like “I hope she recovers soon” imply that he is actively protecting his constituents from an imminent threat but they also make the nurse appear selfish and cavalier about wanting to be out of the tent and go home. The general public and casual news consumer likely hears those remarks and believes that she has a fever and is in some way symptomatic but wants to roam around at will anyway. It just serves to pit people against one another.

Another person on watch . . .

<a href=“Report: 5 Year Old Hospitalized In NYC With Possible Ebola Symptoms | HuffPost Life”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost;

So if this poor child (who arrived Saturday, AFTER the screening procedures were in place) is found to be positive, will all the family members be quarantined?

On tv I think they said the kid’s family is already being quarantined.

Quarantined in their own home or in a tent in a parking lot with a porta potty?

They didn’t say. I guess more details will come out soon. I really hope the kid does not have Ebola.

There is still a lot of personal (as opposed to humanitarian) travel between the US and West Africa.

I also happen to think it’s a very good thing that the courts will be asked to weigh in on the mandatory quarantine issue. A very, very good thing.
