Yeah, neither is good at Science (Fordham in particular).
Not all majors are under cognitive science - make a wider search in bigfutures college search, or on this website if the college search engine has been updated
@my2caligirls it was around 38k for usc and 36k but berkeley. But I will! @fivesages that could’ve been why I wasn’t admitted then I guess? I’d imagine if it’s new then it’s a rather capped major. I plan to go premed but not quite the natural/chemical science route and I love the cognitive science program at usc specifically. @MYOS1634 thank you!!:)) what about UM, USC, Cal or Tulane for cognitive science?
They are good, but they’re reaches.
@MYOS1634 can you explain how they’re reaches? I always believed if you’re under 25% it’s a reach
Because the acceptance rate is low and the schools are very competitive. The average SAT for Harvard is a little above a 1500, but even if you have a 1550, Harvard is still a reach.
It’s a reach if you’re average (50% and below) and they admit 40% or fewer. Below 25-30% acceptance rate it’s a reach for everyone even the geniuses.
The 25% and below don’t count since they’re for specific cases. Only look at stats from average and up.
^hooks like recruited athletes, legacy, etc. If it’s super selective (low acceptance rate), it can’t be a match.
@a20171 @MYOS1634 Oh! So they’re a reach in general I see. I was thinking “wow, are my stats that bad?” Thank you all for your patience!
@hope469 so not URM? Got it
URM can, but within specific parameters.
(URM in a billionaire family doesnt count).
@MYOS1634 id imagine it wouldn’t count in my scenario, URM with an attorney father and doctor mom. My parents weren’t born here though, not sure if that means anything. I’m African American and hispanic.
It wouldn’t really help you much. It’d help a little, but you wouldn’t be admitted with bottom 25% stats since you’d have no legitimate reason for those.
@MYOS1634 good thing I don’t have those
yes - you’re in the vast number in the middle :)… so your odds are low at reaches and 50-50 at matches.
Could demonstrated interest be an issue? Some schools do like to yield protect/reject higher stats kids who don’t show interest…no idea if Fordham does this though.
@hope469 I do read that they protect their yield so that could be it. I showed noooo interest. Oh well to Fordham. I wasn’t going to go anyway
start filling out the “request info form” at all colleges you’ve applied to or are even just considering. Click and read when they send you emails.
@ihopeigetintbh Fordham’s Common Data Set: (not the most recent thing, just the first hit on a google search):

According to C7, they “consider” level of applicant importance. So theoretically not of paramount importance, but still considered.
@hope469 ah shoot, that could explain it. thank you!
