Second thought re subject of SATIIs sorry...

sewbusy, to (mis)quote The Breakfast Club “sounds like your D’s APcalc teacher and my kids’ APUSH teacher should get together and go bowling.”

Subject Tests fall into five general subject areas:
English

* Literature

The above is from the College Board website. There is no English Lang Subject Test. The Lit test is primarily a reading comprehension tests, though some knowledge of poetry terminology and structure is helpful. All of my kids took the test and did well (over 750). However, they are all avid readers who also tested well on the verbal part of the SAT. It’s not a test that can be “studied” for. My suggestion is to take a practice test and see how that goes. If your child is comfortable with the scope and type of questions…go for it! I would agree that most kids who are prepared for the AP US exam can be ready for the SAT II US exam with just a little additional prep. The types of questions are a little different so familiarity with the question format is a good thing.

sewbusy, you can’t really worry about the percentiles for Math2. Because it’s an already self selected group that takes it lots of kids get 790s and 800s. But I am sure colleges take that into account and give you brownie points for doing Math2 instead of Math1.

The curve is actually much more generous on Math 2 than Math 1 - because so many students underestimate their own abilities and take the latter, a single stupid mistake can totally kill your score, whereas on Math 2 you have actually a fair bit of wiggle room.
